I am starting Midwestern's PharmD program in June. I am interested in the Air Force's HPSP program. Does anyone know anything about this, or is anyone in this program. Keep in mind I already have 8 years in the Army, so going in and staying in is no issue to me.

You can check out the MD and dental military forums to learn more about the HPSP program in general. To find out specifics, especially having 8 yrs in, I would seek out an AF recruiter. They will be able to give you the most current info and address your specific needs. There is an application cycle, so you will want to talk to them asap.

Gonna bump this thread 🙂
I've started my HPSP application for the Air Force, just need to get the 3 LORs. I already have the three recommenders I asked for my pharm school apps, but I'm wondering if I should use the same 3. I'm pretty sure I will stick with asking my PharmD at work and my old Senior Chief in the Navy, but I'm wondering if I should ask an additional pharmacist at work for the third one, or ask my chemistry professor again. Anyone have an opinion on what the board would prefer between a second pharmacist or a professor?
Thanks!

Are you going to Midwestern? Don't you think that puts you at a disadvantage because of the high tuition? It's over 40000 a year now I believe. I mean if I was the person in charge and I had a bunch applications and only had x amount of money for scholarships, I would choose students that are going to cheaper state schools because then I might have money left over to help another student out or buy a new tank. Not sure if that is how it works.... I hope for your case the tuition amount isn't a factor.
I wish I tried to get the scholarship back when I started because the debt on my shoulders is heavy!!! Good luck!

Cost of tuition is not a factor for HPSP candidates for the US Government...

Yes, Midwestern. Like the above post said, I don't believe tuition is a factor. At least that wasn't mentioned. The only thing that the recruiter mentioned as far as school choice is that they recognize some programs better than others because they want to ensure they're investing in someone who will come out a competent pharmacist. He told me both schools in Arizona are considered "good programs" from the Air Force's stand point, so I'm in a good position. They also just implemented a 3 year HPSP so essentially my entire schooling would be covered. I really hope I can get this :xf:

Hey Mandydp6, I am also applying for the HPSP pharmacy, have you heard anything back yet? My recruiter told me yesterday that all the scholarships were gone.

Yeah they're gone...I never even got to apply (meaning I didn't get a chance to interview or go to MEPS) because my waivers didn't get approved in time. I will re-apply next year for the 2-year...

Anyone have any information about the Air Force HPSP Pharmacy currently?

In the other thread, you said you were a P3, is this correct? Boards meet in October before the year you are to start. Packages must be together by early September. A package typically takes 6 months to build. For a 1 yr HPSP (starting at the beginning of your P4 year), you would have to have applied by Sep of your P3 year.

So, for a 2 yr HPSP, you would have to apply by Sept. of P2 year, correct? How competitive is it ? I heard only 7-8 pharmacy students get chosen from within the US....
