Does anyone know anything about Alabama State University? Is it a good school to attend? Someone told me that you could go here for premed and medical school and that it only takes six years rather than eight. Is this true and would that look good when applying to a hospital?

Thank You.

That is not true. There are only two medical schools in the state of Alabama: University of South Alabama and UAB. I haven't really heard anything bad about ASU, but if you are trying to decide the best places to complete your "pre-med" courses in Alabama I would choose between UAB, UA, AU, and USA.

Yes, the six year program is false. As far as I know, ASU has no plans whatsoever to open a new medical school. Now UAB and USA both have an early acceptance program, which means a select few high school seniors will be guaranteed a seat in medical school four years later, but this is not a six year program. Both of these programs are BS/MD and take 8 years.

so the six year program is false then
No, these programs do exist at other schools. Its called a B.S./M.D. accelerated program at the schools that offer it. It takes 6 years at some schools at others it is 7.

ASU is an HBCU, and correct me if I'm wrong but the HBCU Fisk University has a 6 year MD program with Meharry. However, I think those schools are pretty close...so maybe they have a 6 year program tied to another med school......but I doubt it.

Two words: Nick Satan!

"Hey Coach Saban, what do you think about medical school admissions?"

"Aight, you gotta understand, aight, that this thing is a process, aight, and if you want to get to where you wanna be, aight, that it is going to take time and effort, aight."

"Do any of your assistant coaches have anything to say?"

Saban's head explodes at this point.
