Very impressed with the direction this program is going. I don't think it historically has had much of an academic name, but the new chairman is doing a good job of changing that. They have a lot of NIH grants, one of the best in new york. They have recently hired a whole bunch of well trained faculty, both junior and senior faculty. Their only remaining area to fortify is retina, but they are in the process of hiring both a junior and senior faculty for that area too, and they are considering candidates from top institutions like hopkins. They have a very unique plastics experience because their person completed a facial plastics fellowships in beverly hills after asoprs oculoplastics. They do 6 months instead of the usual 3, and you will probably get to do a couple of nose jobs or facelifts during your rotation! Residents seem very happy. Great numbers because they are the biggest show in the Bronx, but they are probably pretty busy as a result as well. The faculty met during the interview day were super nice. Residents do pretty well in fellowships - this year glaucoma at BPEI, wills. Retina in toronto. Cornea at nyee. Half the residents live in bronx and half live in NYC and commute. The Bronx housing is affordable and very nice, but it's in the bronx. Excellent program on the rise.
