Certainly! In nature, when it's not breeding season, it's the males that tend to scavenge since they are migratory from one pride to another; it does not work like it does in The Lion King, unfortunately.

In desperate times, a lot of true carnivores will scavenge.

And I thought I was the only one that watches discovery channel and the likes.

Actually even in abundant times the lion will scavenge (true for the big carnivores in general). What's easier to get as a lion 1) a gazelle that is alive or 2) gazelle that is being eaten by a couple of hyenas? I think you know the answer to this one...

I mean, I've reached the point over the years that I just don't even care if I get blood from patients on me- give it a good scrubbing and you're good to go. In that context girlfriend blood is like, whatever. Some people have a natural and severe aversion to blood though.

Although a lion may drive off hyenas for a carcass, in the breeding season, the group hunting makes them less reliant on scavenging than a lone male wandering to keep himself alive for a couple of months.

I saw this heartbreaking program about cross-species animal bonding where a lioness was so traumatized by losing her cub that she found a baby gazelle and acted like its mother. She then relieved the trauma when a male lion spotted it and broke its neck and killed it instantly in front of the lioness. 🙁

I've been disappointed in the direction major education networks have been going in the past few years. That's why my TV basically consists of Netflix. If they're showing only what people want to watch our populace must be getting stupider. I heard on NPR that "Shark Week" specifically has become dreadfully unscientific and sensationalized.

There are many men out there, who either aren't fathers, or have this view that this is a good way to "school" their boys. These are the same men who take their sons to a brothel when they're 16 for their birthday. I grew up with families that did that.

I agree that most dads would be furious if their 12 year old got someone pregnant, but I'm not sure that they all would agree that this was child abuse or rape.

I think I actually remember the story with the gazelle. The narrator said that the same lioness actually kept taking in baby gazelle and nurturing them. It maybe a compulsion due to the loss of her cub or something else (not sure). I felt really bad for the mother.

What I am about to say may give you a negative view on the lion (I kinda feel bad for it too). Even during breeding season, they will still go for the easiest meal possible. There was one documentary showing, during breeding season, lionesses waiting by the wilderbeasts when they give birth. As soon as the youngster is born, they immediately snatch it up and eat them. When I saw that it just blew my mind. It is not scavenging, but you might as well call it that because of how easy it was to get the offspring.

True that it is more efficient to hunt. However, if it is between hunt and scavenge. They will scavenge.

The thing is, I view it as more of an inconvenience post-sex than a barrier in and of itself. It's not the blood so much as the ensuing shower when I'd rather be cuddling and passing out that makes me wish there were another way.

I just un-ignored Derm again. I swore I wouldn't, but I end up missing too much of some threads where he is carrying the argument, erm discussion, forward. Besides, I do actually like to hear what he has to say most of the time. It is just too irresistible to argue with him sometimes.

EDIT: And I just want to personally thank everyone who took this necrothread off the rails and has kept it off. Any discussion of homeopathic woo as related to allopathic/osteopathic medicine raises my blood pressure to aneurysm levels.

I would argue though that artists like Taylor Swift are evolving, just like artists like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber have evolved. It's unfair to state that only rappers have enough credibility to talk about "haters". At any rate, let's agree to disagree.
