whats the DO equivalent?
you sure about the SSP being on eras??...I didn't know it may be that worthwhile...VJWDO said:I too believe that Sigma Sigma Phi is the equivalent to AOA. On the ERAS App you can either say you are a member of AOA or SSP. If PSA were the equivalent, then they would have it listed with them or in the place of SSP.
Just my 2 cents. 😀

It seemed more to me like a popularity contest.
But PSA is a group of students who are chosen based on academic and leadership achievement. SSP is a service fraternity that at least at my school, masks more as a "High Honors" group of people.
that may be true....but I think most people assume its ssp b/c of its inclusion next to aoa on erasPsi Sigma Alpha (PSA) is actually that AOA equivalent. I spoke with a program director about this. SSP is a wonderful group, I'm actually in it. But PSA is a group of students who are chosen based on academic and leadership achievement. SSP is a service fraternity that at least at my school, masks more as a "High Honors" group of people. Such a joke at my school. We, the student members, elected the next class of SSP. It seemed more to me like a popularity contest. If you had friends in the group, you basically got in. I think our GPA requirement was a B average. PSA members were chosen specifically based on academic achievement by local and national administration. Most schools select top 10% of the class. Both great groups, but different. PSA looks better on an application compared to SSP, at least according to the ONE program director I spoke with about it. just my 2 cents. Probably not worth a mound of crap.

Does anybody find it ironic that the prestigous "AOA" that MD students must work hard for is the same 3 letter-acronym that all DO students are automatically a part of?

God, I'd kill to be in the American Osteopathic Association. We all would.
I guess someone needs to say it: allopathic PDs would have a better chance of knowing the name of the Backstreet Boys first album than knowing what Sigma Sigma Phi or Psi Sigma Alpha are. To say either one of these is equivalent to AOA is funny.
