Hi guys, I am an international medical student😳 would like to ask if I can be a membership in the AOA, and how?
If any one can help plz….🙂

If your school has a chapter, they should be able to tell you. There are variations in how places give AOA membership. Mine just takes the top ten percent of students by grades.

thanks alot🙂 , there is no chapter in my uni, but iam going to do an clerkship at UTMB for 3 months, and i am from the top 10percent of students by grade

can i be a membership in the AOA through UTMB AOA chapter?

You are welcome to ask the folks at Galveston (they have a thread on the specific class list), but my assumption is that you can't be an AOA member unless your school has a chapter.

AOA selection depends on the chapter. According to national rules, a medical student has to attend medical school at the school where the chapter exists. Visiting medical students would be ineligible for AOA membership.

My chapter does would not automatically exclude students who are exempt from classes but my school also does not exempt very many students in the first place. Again, selection factors are chapter specific and therefore school specific.

AOA in this thread refers to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honorary society. Many (but not all) U.S. medical schools have chapters and selection to this society is considered a very nice honor. Selection is based primarily on scholarship but leadership can play a role too.

HOW ABOUT THE HONOR OF BEING IN THE COUNTRY'S MEDICAL ASSOCIATION. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OF THE OPINION THAT THESE GROUPS ARE PRIMARILY LIKE WHAT WAS PORTRAYED IN THE "SKULLS" MOVIE.
