alright my fellow peeps im on the alternate list at the University of Arizona. I called and they said I would have been accepted but my comp pcat score was too low. However, they said im in the top 1/3 of 40-45 alternates. Arizona admitted 12 alternates last year...Do you guys think I have a shot or do you think I have to wait a anothe year???!!!!! Since I am so close do you think I will have an advantage next year? Furthermore, if I do get in next year I will graduate when im 29!!! THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!! This is what has been depressing me!

Thanks Guys...I love you...I love you all...i really do...guys??

Can you retake the PCAT and submit your new scores as a way to "update" your application? Maybe that would persuade them to take you off the list sooner.

Good luck!

If they said you are in the top 1/3 of the 40-45 alternate list people then it sounds like you may have a good shot. Just based on the numbers you gave, it would appear that the 1/3 consists of something between 13-15 people. If they admitted 12 off the alternate list last year then you may very well have a good chance. Plus you don't know where you are in the list, you may be in the top 5 and not know it. Fingers crossed for you that you get pulled! Is this the only school you applied to?

This is the only school I applied to... I have been in Tucson, Arizona all my life and I really wanted to attend the U of A. However, if I dont get in this year next year I will apply to 20 schools! haha

University of Arizona seems to consider spring information when taking people from their alternate list. So if you're taking classes in the spring, you could focus on making good grades and potentially moving up the list. From the VERY few people I know, their first choices were UA so I don't directly know anyone that will be declining admissions. Based on the small number of applicants, I think this year's stats have a large range (both GPA and PCAT). I have some friends that got in with PCAT scores below averages from previous years, so I think you have a chance.

If you do need to reapply, keep in mind that 1/3 of the incoming UA class are reapplicants which means you'll have an even better shot next year. Best of luck!

Thanks justyliz!! I feel a little better now!

Man this is so ridiculous. I got denied from U of A. I have a 3.91 GPA, a 78 percentile PCAT, 70+ hours pharmacy experience at the Mayo Clinic, many other volunteer activities, great LOR's and I even called Marty and she was kind of surprised herself. You say there is 40 people on the waitlist and 95 people accepted. There is no way 135 applicants are better qualified than me, there just isn't. She said the only real thing she could think of was my interview. It just so happens that I got interviewed by Dr. Schneider who is a local pharmacist in Tucson and I guess she graduated from U of A. I tried to ask her questions about the program and she said "I dont know, but I can direct you to someone who does". How are you going to interview people and graduate from the school, but cant answer questions about the program? Very stupid to me. I dont know it just seems kind of ridiculous. However, I am happy for everyone who got in and to the people waitlisted, I hope you get in. Good luck.

sASU,

Sorry about the bad news. Your GPA is excellent, and your PCAT is equal to the average of last years accepted students. I agree with you that based on your stats, it is hard to believe that there are 135 people with better numbers. Your pharmacy experience is probably on the lower end when compared to accepted students, but I don't think it is really weighted that heavily. Are you graduating with a B.S. this May, or already have one? If so, then I would find your denial even more peculiar...Do you have any outstanding prerequisite courses? If so, which ones?

Hey Nate, I figured my pharmacy experience would be the weakest link in my chain, but I had 70+ hours and the website says 40 hours, so it is not like I didn't meet their requirements. I am also still currently volunteering, so it's not like I quit doing that.

I am actually getting my B.S. in December, not May. The only pre-req I had left was the 2nd half of Ochem which I am currently taking. However, I got an A+ in Ochem last semester, so it is not like they had anything to worry about as far as me doing well you know?

The whole situation is very upsetting to me. I will be calling them tomorrow to see if maybe I can speak to or set up a meeting with the dean or somebody else who can give me a more direct answer as to why I was denied and not even at least waitlisted. Just seems a bit unfair to me. The only real reason I can think of is that my interviewer did not like me for whatever reason.

Sorry to hear you guys didn't get in. They were saying that this year was very competitive despite the small application number. The best thing to do is to apply again next year when hopefully it won't be as hard to get in. Then again every year the applicants are different but Marty told me last year that they were interviewing people with 3.1-3.2 GPA's. So if you got an interview this year that means that you've got the stats to be competitive. Just keep it up and don't give up. Good luck guys.
