Alternatives to the beaten path that is Medical School

I love eyes and hate surgery, so optometry would seem like a decent fit. However, I also hate working in retail; plus, I don't want to accrue med-school-like debt without having the same income potential as an MD/DO 😎. And, I especially don't like the idea of being restricted to a single-field. At least in medicine you can retrain without adding more debt if you want to switch specialties mid-career. With an O.D., you'd have to start from scratch.

I don't know about you, but now that I know that people can get into podiatry school with a 20 on the MCAT, I'm deeply suspicious of any podiatrist. I know an airhead that got a 22, and the thought of her doing any kind of surgery really scares me. I personally witnessed her label the left lung the "left ventricle" and the right lung the "right atrium." Oh my lawd she is smoking hot though... :meanie:

And this is why the attrition rate at pods schools is so terrible. Just because she got a 22, doesn't mean she will become a podiatrist.

Alternatively, I studied <20 hours for my MCAT, got a 31, and now I'm going to pod school. Does that mean I'll be a better surgeon than 90% of DO graduates and 50% of MD graduates?

Doubt it.
