Hi guys,

I'm not too sure if this is the best forum to address this in (in which case, could the mods more it somewhere more appropriate?), but here it goes. I'm a 3rd year medical student at Glasgow University and like the title says, I'm looking to do an elective in either of these extreme medical fields. I've done some research myself and I've a few ideas, but I was wondering if there's anyone here that has done something similar or is in one of these specialities and could suggest possible avenues to explore? I'd like to do it in the USA, but I'd be willing to go anywhere in the world!

Thanks

Duke has a bariatric / "extreme physiology" type of program. There's at least one chamber in the hospital system, and patients are often brought there for wound healing promotion, etc. It might be worth looking around on the website to see if there's a contact person to ask about doing an elective.

A great resource for contacts and information about the field can be found on the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society website

Emphasis added

I assume you're referring to the Duke Hyperbarics program.

Get hold of UHMS and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

BTW, name confusion between bariatric and hyperbaric medicine happens all the time. 😉
