This thread is for people who are still on the edge of their seats and get a deep sinking feeling every time they hear of others getting interview invites. 🙁
I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't gotten an invite, and then some people have interviews to 2+ schools!! Then they are talking about how they are worried about the interview process and finding plane tix and I'm like "omggg you got an interview and i didnt, stop talking about anxiety!" Who else is anxious?? (and you dont count if you already have an interview 😛 lol) Please tell me I'm not alone!! 🙁

I've applied to a 1000 schools and havent heard a single thing 🙁
I keep hoping if I walk away from the pc, one will magically appear. But that hasn't been working yet. I think 4 of the schools I've applied have already started sending out invites...
 
Don't worry you're not alone! I applied to 4... one is def. handing out invites... like... TODAY! One I got rejected from on a technicality. and 2 I'm just waiting impatiently😱. It's rough!
 
Nope, you are not alone. I applied to 14 schools and still no interview! Its really killing me!
 
You're definitely not alone. I haven't heard anything yet, but it's still early. We still have time! lol I'm trying not to worry either. Hang in there everyone!! Our time will come as well.
 
Ok, maybe I shouldn't comment because I did get an interview at KSU. But I broke out in tears when I got my email because I applied last year and didn't get a single interview. So I definitely know the feeling. And I still have that dread/anxious feeling about all my other schools.

Getting an interview does relieve some of the tension, it's true, but then for me it's like this whole other anxiety cloud dumped itself on me...I'm definitely super excited, but I have this feeling like if I don't wear the right thing or give the perfect answers, I could totally screw it all up for myself! So I think that's why people with interviews are still talking about being anxious.

I definitely feel your pain though and I still kind of have that same dread feeling...because I didn't get in last year and even getting one interview doesn't mean I will this year. So yeah...I think I've had the dread/fear thing going on from the moment I submitted my applications.

I applied to 7, and no word yet. I don't like this waiting game, but we're only two days into this. So I already had my initial freakout... now I'm just in a constant state of worry. I check my email every hour! I stalk the mailman!

Was going to apply to Ross (would have been #8) but my parents talked me out of it (read: threatened to cut off all funds).

I am starting to think that I'm a complete loser because I'm not even expecting to get an interview cuz my school stats aren't fantastic but I'm going absolutely crazy waiting to hear. I would rather get a rejection letter right now than have to wait another couple of months in a constant state of worry. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking I hear my phone vibrate...sometimes I do but it's always just facebook telling me some that I dont care about. I just want to know one way or the other. I totally back the idea of petitioning for all interviews to be sent out by every school on the same date. At least then it's only one day of worry. Aaaahhhhh
 
I'm smiling right now because I watched this happen last year... 2 schools have started sending out a substantial number of invites and everyone that wasn't included starts having spaz attacks...

Chill guys, there is a lot of time left here.

I know, but it still hurts. 🙁 Haha..I REALLY want to go to KSU, I like their program and it's close to home..
 
I applied to 7 schools as well...and no word. But none of my schools have given out invites yet. It is very stressful but also quite exciting.

Yeah, this is the 4th time I've seen this go-around here. 😉

As much as SDN probably fuels my obsession because once I find out one thing, I have to know everything, it also helps me to not freak out so much I think. The process and schools' timelines seem so familiar to me now, haha!
 
I haven't even applied, but I know the feeling. There were two girlsI went to high school with who ended up doing a pre-vet program at an agriculture college while I decided to do my BSc. They ended up getting their pre-reqs after two years and applying. One of them isn't really good with her own pets, so I deleted her off facebook and MSN because I knew it would make me sooo jelous if she got in. I forgot I had her brother on MSN, and one day his name was "... we have a future vet in the family!" I took several deep breaths and then I was okay. I'm trying to focus on the positive. If I had applied after two years, then I would never have discovered my hidden love for entomology or had the opportunity to do an honours.

(3.55)... but my other stuff is above average. I guess what i'm wondering is if the people who haven't heard anything yet have mediocre stats/above avg/below avg

I've already heard back from Kansas, and I have high GRE scores, and a crap GPA (3.0) Haven't heard from OSU, though.
 
If you don't mind me asking....what do you consider a high GRE? Are you out of state? I'm so scared haha
 
i have 3.4 gpa
avg GRE but high Q(750)
excellent experience in SA, lab animal, research
good experience in exotics, wild life
mediocre experience in LA


Im wondering more the stats of people who got interviews. i assume all amazing??

760 quant, 560 verbal (not so high), and 5.5 writing. Yeah, I'm OOS.

Don't knock that 3.55, thats what I have! I got an interview and my stats are:

Cum GPA- 3.55, and thats above avg for vet school, so I'm proud dammit! haha
Sci GPA- (so bad, thanks calc!) 3.3
Last 45 Hours- 3.79
SA- over 1500 hrs
Exotics- 400 hrs
LA- not with a vet, but about 200 or so just hanging out on my friends farms, riding horses etc...
Zoo- abut 100 hours with wolves (animal, not vet experience though)
GRE- 1280

I also had a killer essay if I do say so myself...haha

Also OOS

Hang in there guys, Kansas usually sends them out over a couple of days I think.
 
#1 hughughughughug to everyone who is in the waiting boat. No none of us are alone.

#2 if you read the "where have you been invited to interview" thread, you will notice that right now only 5-7 schools have sent out invites. I was inclined to panic too until I noticed this, and realized that none of my schools were on that list.

#3 good luck to everyone.
 
I know a lot of us tend to get hung up and fixated on stats, but really that's not all that goes into an application. Beyond a certain point where the academic achievement is deemed acceptable, there are other things that will play into a person's success as an applicant. Things like experiences (even if 2 people have 1000 hours of SA clinical experience they could be quite different in scope and what the person got out of them!), letters of recommendation, personal statements, perceived maturity, different types of diversity, understanding of vet med....

So it's pointless to compare your GPA and GRE to someone who already was successful or got an interview and say that if they got one, you should too.

I'm not trying to say I deserve an interview or anything... i'm just looking for a reason to hope!!
 
i mean i got a missouri interview with what i would consider okish scores.. 3.6 overall GPA
3.4 science
3.8 last 45 hours
1130 GRE <-- damn thing
but i got a lot of experience: 1000 wildlife, 700 SA, 300 LA, 300 agricultural (cows, chickens), 100 neuro, a current genetics lab job, 500 at a shelter

hang in there.. positive thinking 🙂
 
So far, I have interviews with Missouri and Glasgow. My numbers are very good, and experience average.

3.84 GPA (about the same for science/last 45)
700 V + 780 M = 1480

200 hours in SA clinic
1300-1400 hours genetics research
50 hours animal experience

Its extremely early everyone, definitely don't even begin to lose hope!

Seconded. I don't really see what difference it's going to make to compare yourself to others' stats at this point. I mean if anything, compare your stats to successful applicants from past cycles. Plus, if you look at the interview dates from last year on the interview feedback, they're really all over the place, even for one school.

It's still so early in the game... don't worry until we're a couple months down the line. No rejections have been handed out (or at least that I've heard of) so until then, we're all still in the running.

Congratulations to everyone with interviews! and Good luck to everyone who will be getting them soon!

Well, I think the high numbers will help me score a few interviews, but unfortunately I don't think they'll take me any further than that. Ultimately, a lot of other things will be far more important.

I'll third what was said above. It probably does make more sense to compare yourself to all the people from last cycle, since there is no definite rhyme or reason to who gets interview invites first.

There are more factors than GRE and GPA that they use to choose. Your past experiences/schooling, your LoR, and your essays are all pretty large factors as well.

In any case it's very early in the process, so no need to panic yet. You all knew before you got into this that applying as OOS was a crapshoot at best to many of these schools, especially ones that are notorious for low OOS numbers. You did the best you could and there isn't anything that will change it now. Wait a few months and give the process and your schools a chance 🙂

nope haven't heard anything. this has been a crap week for me for sure. bombed physics test, interview invites popped up to remind me that this application cycle has really begun, and was manhandled by a biochem exam. can't wait for thanksgiving break!
 
Not sure if this would makes some of you more hopeful or less hopeful:

I'm living proof that good scores and stats are NOT always enough. I was informed in my post mortem this year, that the only way for me not to get an interview is if the entire applicant pool had 4.0's and perfect GRE's. That being said, I'm on round number three because my interview skills suck and it's taken me this long to explore myself enough to know why I really want this and all that jazz.

So for those of you with mediocre scores....don't be worried! Scores aren't everything.

And for those of us with good scores...don't be complacent! Scores aren't everything.

Most of all, relax and smile y'all. Life is always better than you feel like it is. 😛

I don't remember the past two years being this stressful....

I think my boss is getting a little sick of me checking my email every free second I get!
 
i feel like I check my email and SDN equally as obsessively.... as if someone will get my email/letter instead and send out a post *sigh* or something that says "if you haven't gotten one yet, you're rejected" ... really just any information I can gleam I will hunt for!
 
I saw New Moon tonight! SUCH a good movie if anyone wants to go check out the eye candy that is Taylor Lautner and take your mind off of these ridiculous apps for a few hours. 😛 It works, I promise..especially if you grab a slushie too.
