I am goint to apply this June, but one thing I am worrying is the basic science requirement. I am in postbac program, and will finish the basic science courses (except zoology). I know the dental schools say the candidate can finish the requirement before they register. But, how is the chance? Although, I will take this class and other upper division bio courses this fall, is it late for them to see my grade until next Jan. and make decision before? Please help, thanks.

I am pretty sure that no dental schools have zool as a req. So dont worry.

I got into most of the schools I applied to while I was still taking Orgo 2, and Physics 2, and hadnt even taken Biochem, or Physiology yet. While all schools dont reuirer these courses, Indiana does and I still got in, as well as Upenn, and Minesotta, so as long as your other courses have pretty solid grades, and you do well on the Dat im sure it wont be a problem.

Hi pre-den-David and scandalouslj, thanks for you guys. Your reply would give me more confidence about the coming cycle. pre-den-David, when will you apply?

A couple years 🙂 I am a young person! hehe.

I took the DAT before taking O. Chem, and applied without any O. Chem or Physics...Did this lower my DAT score? Yes.

Did I get multiple acceptances? Yes.

My point is, it can be done, and the flip-side of the coin is you can be on your way to dental school a year earlier than you otherwise would have been...Good luck, and don't worry: You will get in.

I did the same...took the DAT before Ochem and applied after only GChem and 2 semesters of Bio. I got a 23 on Ochem and had an overall score of 22/20.

none of the schools had a problem with the fact that i had only a year of science classes...just make sure you get good grades.

It's VERY doable...depends on how much you really want it!

Hi guys, thanks for sharing your experiences and they do help a person who worries about that. 🙂
