I was browsing through the AMCAS application site today and noticed that when listing work/activities, they also request the name & contact info of a supervisor or someone that can vouch that you worked/volunteered/etc there. I'm wondering how the non-trads handle this? Do you only include very recent activites?

I'm asking because I have some volunteering & research that I did years back as an undergrad, however, being out of touch with them for so long I have no idea if people there even remember me or if those same people are still working there. Obviously I don't plan on getting LORs from those sources, but they were still valuable experiences that I'd like to be able to list down on my application. What do most people do in that situation? Is it bad to just list the activity without including supervisor/contact info?

And I won't actually be filling out my AMCAS for a few years still, but I like to plan ahead. 😀

Due to legal reasons companies will typically divulge only whether you worked there, how long and perhaps your job title. That's it. State laws may vary on this though. HR office is usu a good contact info incase anyone wants to verify your employment.

It is not a "required field" and I left that info blank on a couple of mine. It was a while ago & I don't have any idea who is there now!

Also, I only see contact name & title, no other "info." There are a few entries for which I provided this accurately (but I know my boss is no longer with the organization...)

I can't imagine too many (any) adcoms contacting previous employers.

I think you can fill it in. Most schools don't take time to really call and verify each information. As long as you didn't make it up it should be fine.

I agree with dr.z. It is best to be as complete as you can - so what if they don't remember you or that it was forever ago, you are still giving the information they requested. If you don't remember, then as SailCrazy said, they are not required fields. I am a non-trad, and I did not enter the contact info for a couple of the entries and did not have any problems whatsoever. Considering the AMCAS a few years out - premed to the bone you are. 😉

I'm a huge procrastinator generally, but really trying to do this whole med school app thing right and plan ahead. Some of the threads on SDN are giving me ulcers already I swear. 🙄 I figure the entire ordeal is stressful enough... better to anticipate what I get to look forward to in the future than be surprised or unprepared to give whatever info is requested of me. 😀

Thanks for the advice guys! You all rule.
