Hi.
I want to make sure I am doing this right:

I started college in fall 2008 so if I list a class i took in fall 2008 and spring 2009 which woudl be the semester after fall 2008, Do i enter it the following way:

Fall 2008 class:
Academic year: 2008-2009
Academic Term: 1st semester (Fall)
Year in school: freshman
course number : 203 (do I need to include department number here like 750:203?)
course name: physics I
Lecture only

Spring 2009 class
Academic year: 2008-2009 (is this accurate or would it be 2009-2010)
Acadmeic term: 2nd semester (Spring)
Year in school freshman
Course number: 204
Course name: physics II
Lecture only

Also I have another question I took a summer course in summer session after the spring 2009 class basically in summer 2009, now would this course be in academic year 2008-2009 summer, or 2009-2010 summer. I used 2008-2009 summer and in the final draft the class comes aboev my fall 2008 course, so it might indicate that i actually took the summer class before fall 2008, hence I was wondering whether 2009-2010 summer session was a better option for this class. Thanks for the help

Everything looks correct (you did the academic years correctly). I'm not sure if you include department numbers; if they're the same thing as section numbers (i.e., basically designating multiple instances of the same class each semester), then I wouldn't include them. Check the AMCAS instructions to be sure.

The academic year begins with each fall semester, so a class taken in the summer of 2009 would be in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Also, there's a thread for AMCAS-specific questions.

hi,

I just read on aamc website somewhere that for amcas, the acadmic year starts from summer through spring. Hence someone who took a summer class in the summer following their freshman year (my case) , would enter the class in 2009-2010 academic year. Also, it would be listed as a sophmore class not a freshman class.

Well things may have changed then - use what's written in the AMCAS guidelines. I entered all things as if the academic year started in the fall and nothing was corrected. But again, use the guidelines AMCAS describes as those are definitely right.
