Hi. Does AMCAS gpa include courses that I got letter grade for, but was exempt due to AP credit? I took gen bio classes and got As but did not need to take them and they are not included in my university gpa.

How are gen bio classes taken at the University not included in your university GPA?
At my alma mater, when I took gen bio it just overrided my AP Credit. So I basically was not recognized as having AP credit for bio because I retook gen bio. AMCAS only counted gen bio from my University and not my AP bio credits.

yea AP credit overrides mine. I just found the answer and it counts. Anyways, another question. If I took a gap year that is not in sync with the 1 semester (taking a break after 1 semester and coming back next year 2nd semester, etc), do I just consider first 2 semester to be freshman year then next 2 sophomore, etc for AMCAS?

Depends on your credit load. According to AMCAS INstruction Manual (link here: https://students-residents.aamc.org/search/?q=amcas_instruction_manual.pdf )
"If you have been enrolled part-time or have had interrupted attendance, you should use
these ranges to determine your appropriate status for each term:
High School (HS) College-level coursework taken while in high school
Freshman (FR) 0-35 semester hours
Sophomore (SO) 36-65 semester hours
Junior (JR) 66-95 semester hours
Senior (SR) 96+ semester hours"
So does this mean that exact 35 semester hours (I am assuming this is units) is counted towards 1st year? What if I took more than 35 semester or less than 35 semester hours in that academic year? do I just break up the classes that I took within the same year to count towards first AND second year? my gawd I am confused now. I thought also summer counts towards the upcoming year. I'm in the quarter system and I left after completing 1 year and 1 quarter and came back.
