Hello,

I am seeking some insight the calculation of my AMCAS GPA.

I attended a community college where grades were issued as follows: A = 4.0, B+ = 3.5, B = 3.0, C+ = 2.5, C = 2.0, and so on and so forth. The grading system at the community college did not issue "minuses", and as described, did not use the N.7 / N.3 system for minuses and pluses.

I transferred from said community college to a four year university, where grades were issued as follows: A+ = 4.3, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, and so on and so forth.

Does AMCAS convert ALL grades reported to the seemingly more universal A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, etc, or will my grades from the community college I attended be included in the AMCAS GPA with the original weight they carried in the community college's grading system? More briefly I guess, will my B+'s and C+'s from community college go from 3.5's and 2.5's to 3.3's and 2.3's in the AMCAS calculation?

Also, is it true that when entering my grades into AMCAS I am supposed to OMIT the courses I withdrew from and was issued a "W" for the withdrawal on my transcript??

Thanks!

Yes AMCAS converts all grades to the universal system as you mentioned. Regarding Ws, you should mention them though they won't affect your GPA

I read that, but it does not provide the specific detail I am looking for...

"AMCAS counts all "+" or " -" grades, even if your school does not.
At some schools, a "+" or a "-" counts as n.3 or n.7, at others they count as n.5.
Please note that AMCAS assigns the same weight (4.0) to grades of A+ and A."

The instructions are a bit ambiguous on this as I would interpret that you use the weighting system the school that assigned the original grade. But you need to call AMCAS and get it clarified
I found this, but I'm not sure how I should interpret it - if my school uses the scale as described in my original post, should I then assume that (as per the second chart of conversions) that my AMCAS GPA will be calculates with B+'s being 3.5 and C+ being 2.5, and so on and so forth?

In short, the 3.5 CC class will drop to a 3.3 with the AMCAS calculation.

They are not going to weight your CC classes the same as that college did. Otherwise, someone could end up with a >4.0 GPA, which is not possible on AMCAS.

Might call them on Monday to verify.
