Hey,
when are we told our calculated gpas from amcas?.....is it after we submit and they process, and if we're still waiting for the april mcat scores, they do they not process until we update them on our mcat scores?.....and how do we check for our gpas? (sorry to seem anal, but i am....and i'm also leaving the country next week and am starting to panic) thanks!

You are only told your AMCAS GPA when your grades are received and processed by them. You check your GPA by going to your application page. On the left side there should be something about checking your status. Anyway, on there it will say that they have received your transcript. Also, AMCAS will send an email letting you know when they receive your transcript. I'm not sure I understand your MCAT question. It's a little poorly worded. I'll try a response and hopefully it answers your question. You do not have to send your mcat scores to AMCAS. They receive them automatically. Your calculated GPA is a totally separate process from recording the mcat scores. Overall though, your whole application is not completely processed until your transcript arrives and your mcat score is sent.

ahha--that part i didn't get. Thanks! i guess i just have to send a photocopy to my undergrad health professions office instead of both places.

Why are you sending your MCAT scores to your undergrad health professions office (what is that anyway)?

The way I read the question its asking "does AMCAS even bother to look at your transcripts and application before you pay them?" Thats what I'd like to know anyway. I mean I'm not gonna submit my app until I get my MCAT scores in June, hopefully AMCAS will have looked at the transcripts and figured out the GPA by then.

my undergrad admissions office collects all of my LORS and sends them off--but they also endorse me as a qualified candidate from my school (supposedly) and send a composite letter.....for this, they require all sorts of stuff like a 4 pg autobiography, transcripts, the AMCAS application print-out, a personal interview, and the MCAT score--its almost like doing a second application and i'm just getting confused....

...i thought about it a bit: i guess i was under the impression that AMCAS wouldn't process our applications unless everything was complete, including transcripts and mcat scores. But i guess that doesn't really make sense since some people take mcats in august and i'm sure they get processed before hand, right???? i guess it doesn't matter, but i just wanted to know cause i have to relay the info to my undergrad school so THEY can process it and be ready to send out the LORS when need be...i'll be happy when this is done 🙂

They don't look at your stuff until you submit.

For people who know from last year, about how long does it take AMCAS to do whatever they have to do to "complete" your application and send it to the schools you designate? If you submit when you get your MCAT on say June 15, when would you be complete? Thanks

hi there,

i'm going to gamble and submit my amcas june 1 and then the mcat scores will automatically be sent -- that way no time will be lost. hopefully the scores will go well. from what i've heard, if your practices have been fairly consistent, that's probably the best idea, since it gets the ball rolling early (and that is the number one piece of advice i've heard from previous applicants --- START AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE)

I'm pretty curious to see what they will come up with for my GPA too. I'm assuming that my GPA will be 0.00. :meanie: Anyone here applied previously from an undergrad that does not give grades? What GPA will AMCAS assign?

Don't gamble. As long as you are in by around June 20th, you will be in the same batch of secondary mail outs/emails as those who submitted June 1st. Schools don't start sending secondaries until July 6th or so and it only takes about 10 days for AMCAS to verify everything.
