hey, I have two questions regarding AMCAS grade input.

1) I took AP Physics and recieved credits for it. But I decided to take physics again in college so my AP Physics credits got erased. On my transcript, it says AP Physics with 0 credits. What should I put in for AP Physics?

2) I passed the departmental calculus exam my freshmen year so I was exempted from Calculus I and II. My transcript says "Calculus I and II Waived." What should I put in for Calculus?

Thank you!!!

I'm not sure how you should deal with number 1 (I have a similar predicament). With respect to number 2, I would put "placement exam exemption for Calc I & II" as the title of the course and select "exempt" from the grade type boxes at the bottom of the form.

1) Anything with 0 credits doesn't count as a course. It has to be a course with a grade on your college transcript.

2) If calc was waived, you didn't take it. So you have no grades to record.

Re #2, this is not a GPA issue per se, but a prereq issue: better check with schools you're applying to that require calc. Most of them aren't going to accept placing out of calc as fulfilling their requirement (they expect you to take an upper-level course instead). However, they may well let you apply without it, in which case you can usually take the class the summer before you start med school.

List them exactly the way your transcript does. AMCAS will edit it with their mystical markings if they don't agree before your certification is complete.

Specifically:

I also listed an AP class that I repeated by taking the same college class. AMCAS removed the Repeat (R), listing it the same as a first-time course with appropriate hours (4.0) and grade (A). The AP version (same Course Name) was still listed as AP, with 4.0 OT hours, a blank under Sem Hours, PS under OT grade, and G under AMCAS grade.

I also had waived a class in English based on my ACT score. AMCAS labeled it as AP (which is what my transcript said), OT hours 4.0, blank under semester hours, OT grade=PS (I had put in PASS), AMCAS grade G (I had not put a grade).

So I just dont have to even put anything in for both AP Physics and the exempted calc class? I have no problem with calc prereq because I took calc III and diff eq anyways.

I think this is a very school-specific issue. All the schools I applied to accepted my AP Calc I & II, and I took no higher level math. I've heard none of the California schools will accept AP credit, though.

Run through the manual -- I remember seeing something like "only report AP credits that you've received credit for." 0 credit hours means you haven't received credit for it...

In other news, there's some flashing yellow lights outside my lab and I have no idea what they are.

I agree with Mobius...list it exactly the way it is on your transcript. I had some separate labs that counted zero credit hours because it was included in lecture. I called AMCAS and they said to include it exactly as it was on the transcript. Better to have it than not...if it is wrong they will correct it for you.
