Hello,

Sorry if this is a "noob" question, but how does AMCAS calculate + and - grades? I just got verified and wanted to check to make sure everything is right. Thanks.

sorry. But i'm still confused even with the link above. My undergrad school gives out grades from 4.0-0.0. An A would be 4.0 or 3.9 as an A- would be 3.8,3.7,3.6,3.5. I guess my question would have to be, does Amcas just give you a 3.7 say if you have a 3.6 or even a 3.8 in a class to count it was an A-? Hope that makes sense.

Across the AMCAS board:

A/A+ = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7

And we all know there is nothing lower on SDN 😉.

i wish that was true

This only talks about schools with both + and - grades. What about schools with only + grades:

A: 4.0

B+: 3.5

B: 3.0

C+: 2.5

C: 2.0

There's a part on the amcas conversion guide that talks about schools like this and suggests that these grades would pretty much stay the same for the amcas. Is this correct, or do they suddenly assign B+: 3.3 etc?

The case I gave is the majority of the cases. I admit, I don't know much about the other grading scales. I would read the supplement to the application.
