Does anyone know a "W" is computed in the AMCAS GPA? Someone told me its computed as an "F"????!?!?! Does anyone know how medschools might look at "W"'s if you have a legitimate reason for having them?

i forgot the "how" before "a"

On my AAMCAS application W's aren't counted at all, as they should be. I just entered the info like for other classes, and checked "withdrawal" on the little list. I entered W for the OT grade, and it deleted the rest of the list and didn't count it on my GPA. Hope this helps. 🙂

When I applied they were not counted as F's. HOWEVER, they were presented in a way that would easily catch the attention of an adcom. All the grades were lined on one column while the W's were set apart in a seperate column, BY THEMSELVES!! I about croaked when I saw this on the Amcas print out they mail you. But I got in, so it is not the end of the world 😀

Col has a good point. They DO stand out, but what can you do now? If they're there they're there. No reason to let it worry you now.

Like an old song: Don't Worry, Be Happy. 🙂

Well in my case, I wish I could tell you that there was reason to contest my withdrawls... but there wasn't one. Unless you say I wasn't doing too well at that time 😀
If it is not on your transcript I doubt there should be any problem. HOWEVER, I would ask your school for a transcript and see it for yourself. And ask your school the same question you asked here.
