is there a way to figure out your amcas grades before registering through amcas? i am trying to calculate my gpa's, but i don't see directions on their site.

It will probably turn out the same as your normal GPA. Unless you failed a class and retook it and your undergrad replaced it. AMCAS counts all grades even if your undergrad replaces them...if that helps at all. What is the grading scale at your school? A+, A, A-, ect?

If your school uses A AB B BC C D grading scale your AMCAS GPA will be lower because it will count an AB as B+

Don't forget, if you have taken ANY college courses anywhere else (even the colleg courses you may have taken in high school), these grades are also figured into your GPA. That is why you will have to have a transcript from each and every place you have ever attended. If you have only gone one place your job will be easier figureing out the gpa like the previous poster said it will be your actual gpa or slightly lower on the A+, A-...scale.

Hooray, this is my 400th post. Wow I run my mouth alot. <img src="graemlins/laughy.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughy]" />

Does anyone know how a pass/fail grade is calculated into AMCAS?

A pass/fail course is listed but it does not factor in the GPA.

if you did an EMT class through a community college AFTER graduation, should you be sending the transcripts in for the EMT class with your Univ transcript? Does that class factor into your GPA?

I also found out if I can use this class on my school transcript (be added in) and they gave me an emphatic 'NO!' Why? b/c technical courses do not count on academic transcripts! That's a whole 8 credits worth of 4.0 gone down the drain. 😡 😡

come on..anybody??
I know some of you might hold the key to my question?? 🙄

Tweetie,
I would say you need to include your EMT transcript. I transfered from cc to a university and the university did not accept my credits because they do not have a category for those credits to fulfill. However, AMCAS wants all of your classes documented. Amcas verified them and used the grades in their calculation of GPA.
Hope this helps.

That certainly wasn't true in my experience. My undergraduate school used that system, and AMCAS accounted for an AB as a 3.5, the same as my school. The grade B+ would be a 3.33...

yayy! thanks for the info P6. I was hoping those 8 credits would count for SOMETHING! I hope AMCAS looks at my grade in my EMT class as something that was well earned, and calculates it in the mix too. Wow, I can just see my GPA finally have a few stars next to it.

AMCAS even takes your high school grades into consideration? I took a AP class and did not do that good in it. This class did not count for any college credit because I didn't score high enough on the exam, will it still be averaged into my application? I sure hope not...

I took some classes at a cc during high school and during one of the summers in college. Also, after I graduated from college, I took like a photography and art classe at another cc. Does AMCAS want transcripts for all these classes (even if they have nothing to do with medicine?)

Geoff,

If you didn't receive college credit for the courses, then AMCAS doesn't care.

Janet,

If you received college credit for the courses, then they have to be reported to AMCAS. Many college courses don't have anything to do with medicine (i.e. Art, Theatre, etc) but if it's college credit it has to be reported.

It's pretty simple really. You have to report all college credit you have. Simple, huh?

sorry for the delay...my school does not give A+'s... here's another issue: what about courses taken at a university abroad? Only the credits - not the grades - were considered by my university. It is impossible to get a transcript sent from the foreign school - they won't do it. However, my school has an official copy on file which I can request (I hope) to be sent along with my transcript. That will have to suffice. Anyone else have a similar experience?

ALL COLLEGE CLASSES BEFORE, AFTER HIGHSCHOOL, OR BEFORE AND AFTER COLLEGE HAVE TO BE REPORTED....ANYTHING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR MAJOR, OR SCIENCE HAS TO BE REPORTED....hey look at it this way, it will bump up ur gpa 😀

AP classes are also reported as well if you got college credit, but they mean absolutely nothing! their like pass/no pass...means nothing!

you just GOTTA LOVE THAT WATCHA!

This is the direct word from AMCAS regarding foregn schools.

The following schools are not considered foreign institutions and transcripts are required. Courses should be listed on the AMCAS materials like all other U.S. coursework.

Akita Campus of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
American College in Jerusalem (Closed in 1976)
American College in Switzerland
American College of Thessaloniki
American University in Beirut
American University in Bulgaria
American University in Cairo
American University of Paris
American University of Rome
College of Southeastern Europe
Deree College
Franklin College
Fundacion Universidad de las Americas - Puebla
IMC - International Management Centres
Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empresas
Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey
International College
Lebanese American University
The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary
The Open College
Richmond College, The American International University in London
Universidad de las Americas, A.C.

Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. U.S. institutions with campuses overseas (such as the University of Maryland at Munich) are considered U.S. colleges for which transcripts are required and all coursework must be listed.

Courses attempted independently at a foreign institution must be listed if the credit has been transferred to a U.S. or Canadian institution using a credit hour system convertible to semester hours.

Include the foreign institution and the U.S. or Canadian institution accepting transfer credit in your list of colleges attended.

Request a transcript exception for the foreign institution. Indicate the U.S. or Canadian institution on whose transcript these transfer credits will appear.

List foreign coursework under the foreign institution at which it was attempted.

The College Name/Location assigned to this coursework will appear on your AMCAS application as follows:

Name/Location of U.S. or Canadian institution

Transfer Credit

(Name/Location of foreign institution)

If transfer credits are not assigned to individual courses, subdivide the credit hour total as appropriate and assign credit hours to each course.

If the U.S. or Canadian institution awarding transfer credit provides letter grades (e.g., A, B, C, etc.) and credit hours convertible to semester hours for each course on their transcript or on an official letter attached to their transcript:

Enter all required course data.

AMCAS will include this coursework in AMCAS GPAs, regardless of institutional policies.

If the U.S. or Canadian institution does NOT provide letter grades other than Pass/Fail:

Indicate "Pass/Fail" as the Course Type and provide all other required course data, entering the transcript grade exactly as it appears on your official transcript.

Select either "P" or "N" as the AMCAS grade.

AMCAS will NOT include this coursework in AMCAS GPAs; however, AMCAS will include this coursework in cumulative Pass/Fail-Pass and Pass/Fail-Fail credit hour totals.

Courses (other than M.D. coursework) attempted independently at a foreign institution are NOT required to be listed if credit has NOT been transferred to a U.S. or Canadian institution. If you include this coursework on your application:

Include the foreign institution in your list of colleges attended.

Request a transcript exception for the foreign institution.

Do not send foreign transcripts or certificates to AMCAS.

Provide all required course data except credit hours attempted and AMCAS grades.

The coursework will NOT be verified by AMCAS and will NOT be included in your AMCAS GPAs.

Hope this helps...
