Is it possible to group together publications/presentations/posters? I know people say you should give publications there own section, but seeing as I have only 1 (and it's from one of my most meaningful so I will talk about it there), I didn't see a good reason to use all that space for it. I do have a fair amount of posters/presentations. Also, I have 14 other activities so if I didn't group them I would have to get rid of something else. Thanks the help!

Posters/Presentations and Publications that occured in campus-only venues, can be listed in the same space as the Research.

Posters/Presentations that presented the same data as the publication can be listed in the same space as the Publication (assuming it was PubMed searchable).

It isn't necessary to list every poster/presentation you've done. Just pick out the most prestigious of the conferences where you did this.

In the end, you can list or group things any way you want and not be "wrong." However, if you are planning to apply to research-focused institutions, you would do yourself a disservice to underemphasize components you don't want to have adcomms miss. Like a publication in a regional or national peer-reviewed journal.

Thanks that helps! So lets say I want to list 2 poster/presentations that were along the same lines as the publication. Would I make the heading of the activity "Publication" and list that first? Or how would that work?

I would put the most significant activity as the activity type, i.e., if you're going to list publications AND posters/presentations in the same activity, make the activity "publication" and list everything. Just be clear that the other things are posters and presentations.

You could also just make a single "research" activity and describe your work there (including pubs), which is what I did.

You would designate the activity as a Publication, and name the activity something like "Nature Publication and related Posters." Fill in the header with info related to the Publication only, then give the citation in the narrative box.

After that say, Data also presented as: And then for #1), #2), presentation/poster give date, name of conference, location, whether you or someone else presented the poster with your name on it, your place on the author list. And if you have room, the name of the poster (if it varied). If the poster name was the same/similar for all of them, put the Poster "Title" at the beginning of the paragraph, which saves a lot of space.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Just to clarify, I could only do this with posters/conferences that use the same set of data as the publication? If I had a poster from some other research I had done or a different publication, I would not put it there?

Now I guess I have to get published in Nature 🙄

1) If you want to add unrelated posters/presentations, you could do it in the same space (if room remains) if you start a new third paragraph with: Unrelated Posters/Presentations: 1), 2), etc. But you could also add those to the Research space related to them, which would create a better flow.

2) It was the example that came to mind. Amend as necessary. 🙂
