AMCAS has a box you could check for 'honors' when inputting your coursework. I only have two classes that actually say honors on my transcript, and so I designated those as honors. However, theres a bunch of other classes that are considered honors, such as calculus and a geography class, and are counted as honors credit, however there is no mention of this on my transcript. Should I mark them as honors as well?
Thanks.

Give it a shot. If it is not permissible, AMCAS will X it out during verification.

Do the course numbers have an H or something in them? All the honors classes from my school had an H at the end of the course number, and there was no problem designating them as honors. I'm not sure if you'd have a problem if there is no indication; on the one hand you might, because you could just say any course is honors, but on the other hand I'm not sure the AMCAS checkers really care.

what exactly is the benefit of having the honors designation on our amcas app? does it just show that a class was honors, or does it actually affect the numbers somehow (gpa weight, whatever...)?

just curious...i only had a few and i was just wondering what benefit, if any, they offered on the app.

It just looks like honors. No effect on GPA. Honors courses at my school were quite a bit more intellectual and involved more writing, so I'm glad I get to make that notation on my application.

Yeah, that's what I figured. My few honors classes were all very intense as well, but I was just curious what the designation was because for every school that has a very distinct difference in honors classes, there's schools where all you have to do is write an extra paper and you can add honors designation to your class. But it's nice to know that the hard work wasn't for nothing 🙂

If the AAMC cant identify these courses as Honors on your transcript, don't mark them as such. All AAMC is gonna do is make X's on your AMCAS showing the admissions committee that you included stuff they didnt agree with in part of the application that should be relatively straight-forward.

I'm not sure they'll even care if it's honors. I'm not even sure anyone cares after high school. I marked them anyway though since it couldn't hurt (unless it lowered your grade).

All my courses were honors. University of Toronto represent.
