I submitted my AMCAS like 2 weeks ago, and I logged on to just look at my application last week, and on the welcome screen it said that my application has completed processing and has been sent to my designated schools. Problem is, the transmission dates next to all of my shools are still blank, and I never got an e-mail to confirm. Am I going to have to **gasp** call them? Or should I just chalk it up to the silliness of the whole thing? Suggestions, anyone?

Only 2 weeks to process your application! You don't know AMCAS pain. Mine took three months last year!

Really, I'm only a little bit bitter, and mostly happy for this year's class that the whole system is working much more smoothly than last year.

Hey,

do u guys think that if i submit my application by this week, it'll be late?

Kevin,

I was just debating this last night with my bf! Basically, I figure that SDN has way more early submitters than the general premed population. This is because

1. there are a lot of advocates for submitting early here

2. SDNers want to go to med school really bad, more so than other premeds (they sought out this site, right?) and would be less likely to procrastinate

I know there are tons of kids that submit at the very last second. You won't be late at all, you'll be ahead of the game.

Good luck!

Thanks alison and thingamij for your tips =)

i'm just trying to knock out this essay. its kicking my ass and i keep getting brain freeze =0

Kevin, I feel your pain... I'm usually the type that can write a killer essay in 30 minutes right before I have to hand it in... Not so with the personal statement. I think I wrote something like 25 drafts of mine... I could have recited it backwards and in German by the time I was done with that stupid thing!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> So just keep pluggin' and try really hard not to get sick of it like I did with mine. Good luck!

thanks for the encouragement silverangel.
did u turn in ur amcas in yet? how many schools r u applying to?

I brought up the same issue a while ago and got this reply from jot:

the full tranmittal date is July8th - however, they send "condensed" info once a week which is enough info to start sending out secondaties assumably. you might even get them before your app has been officially transmitted. cheers!

Yeah, I turned in my AMCAS like 2 weeks ago because I just couldn't take looking at it anymore... I applied to 20 schools so far, and I'm applying to NYU too, which is non-AMCAS. Apparently though, this is kind of weird, because when I tell people I applied to that many schools, they look at me like I have four heads. I don't know. Better safe than sorry I say... Anyone else have an opinion on that?

brett, thanks for that info. u tight

silverangel, my bad. i didn't realize u started this thread and wrote u sent it in 2 wks ago. niice

silverangel,

def i say apply to a lot. my opinion is that I wouldn't want to not get into a school and then be kinda put back a year. 20 schools is just a lil extra bling bling...

r u making sure u apply to the "3 tiers of schools"?

Yeah, I think I applied to a wide range of schools, just about all the NY ones and then some. I've been looking all over the place at stats and stuff to see if I'm "competetive" enough. Paranoid? Yes I am... BTW, thanks for the info brett.

Paranoid? Absolutely not. I can testify firsthand that 100% rejections is a devastating turnout and b) the more schools you apply to, the less your chances are of being rejected everywhere. However, realize that 20 schools is a lot. Sadly, it's the premed norm, and it wouldn't be that way if everyone else applied to fewer schools. It's all about going with the flow, in this dog-eat, er, dog-devour-dog world.

I am PARANOID though, get this: I just checked my AMCAS page, and it said my application is on hold because AMCAS didn't receive 'supporting docs' from my college. I suspect I never requested it, and now submitting early was a worthless move. This is an asinine task, applying to med school. Just wait for residency apps!

willy,

i feel you. i sent mine in the 11th, and i found out that amcas hadn't received the transcript i sent 3 weeks earlier. so i had to send out another one and wait, during which i could have been perfecting the application.

and just yesterday, a friend happened upon my amcas printout and wanted to read it. i've been avoiding it, but turns out i had 2 small typos in the post-secondary experience section. i spelled resistant resistent, and i forgot a the. minor mistakes but they're burrowing into my brain. kicking myself.

simpleG,
how did you find out amcas didn't receive your transcript. did they send you an e-mail or do you see it on your page when you log in?
thanks!

i saw that they needed supporting docs on the front page. called them the next morning, and the guy said that they hadn't gotten it yet.

i've called amcas twice so far, and the wait time hasn't been that bad.

when they received my transcript last week, they sent me an e-mail and it said so on the website.

did it say they needed supporting documents or was the transcript "received" blank after the school was listed? i'm just wondering b/c for 2 of my schools it says received, and for the other there's a blank. I requested a transcript exception for the one with a blank. the other school i requested an exception for is not even listed. there is nothing on the page that says they're waiting for supporting documents.
thanks.

lola,

next to "current application status" it said held.
and somewhere it said, "supporting docs" as a reason.
then next to my school, it was blank.

now it says, active and received, respectively.

if your application status is "active", i think that it should be ok. but i wouldn't be certain. it seems strange that of the two exceptions you requested, one is listed and one isn't. doesn't hurt to call.

thanks for responding, simple G.
it has said "Current Application Status: Active
Your application and official transcripts have been received and are in line to begin the Verification process" ever since i submitted it on june 11. maybe i will call them. i am a little worried, because the exception was for a spring quarter transcript. the grades were not available until june 10, and i was told the transcript would not get there until mid-july at the earliest. i didn't want to hold up my transcript on this, but got different advice on what to do from different people at amcas. ugh.. maybe i'll have a transcript sent just to make certain.

Hey guys, i just started a new topic but realized I should have just asked it on this thread. On the amcas app, when i look at the printable version of the essay, it doesn't have any tabs/spaces for my paragraphs. it's just one big blob! is this the way that all the ad people are going to see it? i'm going nucking futs with this app already. are you guys experiencing the same? also, beware...it is only allowing me 5252 characters for whatever reason, anything more and it just cuts it off. i'm assuming that it's because of hard returns...

Mine has been processed since June 13 and my school desginations transmission dates are also still blank.

I think some of you guys are worrying too much. Some schools are still filling this year's class, so it's definitely not too late to submit an application for next year's class.

Last year, I didn't submit until late August, I got processed a month later, and yes, I'm starting med school this fall. My "late" submission didn't have any impact on me (granted, I wasn't ED). Don't worry about. i would suggest that you get it submitted by this summer so you can get your secondaries finished before school starts. :)
