Hey everyone-

I decided to make a thread solely for all AMCAS related questions. I hope this will make things easier for us.

So, here's my questions....

1. If we had schools send in our transcripts recently, do I have to wait until AMCAS receives them before I am allowed to submit my AMCAS? Or, can I just go ahead and submit my AMCAS knowing that the transcripts will be arriving within the week or two.

2. If I plan on taking the Aug MCAT and I already have MCAT scores from last year, do I need to wait to submit my AMCAS? Reason being is that I probably will receive interviews with my initial scores (on the basis that I applied last year and got interviews) if I choose to do this route. HOwever, I know that my Aug MCAT scores will be better (I hope). So, will AMCAS notfiy schools of my new score?

Thanks.

medboy,

Submit your application asap!

#1) AMCAS does not require that your trancripts be on file in order for you submit your application...Click submit on your side and AMCAS will do thier thing once they get all your stuff...

#2) I am not sure if AMCAS will submit your new scores or not, but if you are confident that you will score secondaries and interviews with your current primary application, I don't see any reason to wait (actually I see one, and I will elaborate on that in a second). Timing is so crucial in the application process and the sooner you get everything in, the better! Once you do get your new MCAT score, take it upon yourself to make sure that your new score is reported to the schools that your are intersted in.

The bottom line in all this is TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! The earlier you get those secondaries and interviews the better your chances of securing a seat at at least one school, and that is the ultimate goal, right?!

The one reason I could see why one would contemplate waiting until they get thier August MCAT score to submit their application is the big, "What if I get rejected pre-secondary with my current application, but then I score much higher on the August MCAT? Is there anything I can do to make a school rereview my new and improved application? Doesn't my new score warrant a second look?" ... Ah, the stresses of the application process...

If there is anything else I can do, please just ask!

I have another question, which may or may not have been answered before, but I can't seem to make the search function work.

If I apply to just one school now through AMCAS, do I need to retype everything when I decide to add more schools later? OR is that application still ready to go? Thanks!

You can just add schools without doing a thing to the rest of your application. In fact, once you submit, there are only very limited changes you can make to your application. So the same application is sent out to whatever schools you add sometime, hopefully soon, after you add them, but it's always a mystery when AMCAS will see fit to take any action. Good luck with the application process! 🙂

1. no you don't have to wait, you can just submit

2. as long as you note on AMCAS that you are taking the August MCAT this year they will forward these scores also.

3. no retyping necessary.

4. there is a jumbo thread already for all AMCAS related questions, but anyway...
