Just got this in an email from my pre-med advisor. Remeber, you heard it here first.

AMCAS submission date change

We have just heard from AMCAS that "...for the entering of 2003, applicants will be able to certify and submit their applications on or about June 5.? This is earlier than the June 18th first submission date last year, and a few days later than the June 1st start date that we have had for a number of years. The reasons for the June 5th date include: " June 1 is on the weekend.? As an organization, AAMC? finds that releasing software on a weekend, when we're not fully staffed, is unwise.? Also, Wednesdays allow a few days prep and a few days follow-up as part of the normal work week.? Why 'on or about'?? Our new mantra is "no software before its time" so we will use June 5 as our target date, but depending on test results and so forth, it may be a few days before or after."?

Nevertheless, we would recommend that applicants who are taking the April 2002 MCAT wait to see their MCAT scores (mid-June) before submitting their applications because this is important information (1) for making final school selections, (2) for deciding whether or not the MCAT will be repeated (this information needs to be on the AMCAS application) and, (3) in some cases, deciding whether or not to delay the application for a year.
