I anxiously awaiting the transmission of my application to my designated medical schools. (I submitted on June 3) I called AAMC and they told me it would be transmitted today, July 1. This may be a stupid questions, but is the "transmission date" listed on the welcome page of your application the date AMCAS makes your app available to schools, or is it the day the schools view it?

Availible, schools do not begin downloanding the apps untill now at the earliest. I know of a few schools which wont begin looking for a while....Many schools wont look at anything even if its downloaded untill you get your secondary in.....Hopkins yale and tulane i belive are among these........you dont wait for an invitation to submit a secondary like most schools do.....you just do it.....

So does anyone who's been processed welcome page have anything different on it under the "transmission date?" Mine are still all blank!

No! I'm wondering the same thing. I actually talked to a REAL PERSON at AAMC who told me they would be transmitted today. 😡 I suppose I'm a little more obsessed than usuall cause i have nothing to do at work today besides constantly check my application:laugh:

I submitted 6/5 and it is still blank next to the transmission date.

I also submitted very early and there is nothing under the transmission date yet. Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure its like this because teh transmission date won't show up until each individual school looks at you app. I'm not worried at all yet because it looks like everyone is in the same boat as me!! I'm just soooo impatient because I'm applying to an early assurance program and I've already gotten past the first hurdle-- filling out the primary; I'm just anxious to know if I'll be rejected without a secondary or given a chance to get over the next hurdle (the secondary). The waiting is killing me, but I'd better get used to it, right? 😛

i submitted on the 5th, and my transmission dates are still blank as of 12:30 am, july 2nd. knowing amcas, everything moves in slo-mo, so i wouldn't sweat bullets just yet. i wager they'll do it by saturday, if not sooner.

good luck everyone.

when i applied i was really confused, alot of my secondaries were sent to me BEFORE the transmission dates to the schools. and the transmission date changed a couple of times. actually, some transmission dates were for after i returned secondaries. I still have no idea what happened.

yeah - same deal here. I am anxiously waiting for something to appear under the transmission dates. I might call AMCAS today and ask

cheers

while you're waiting, there are some schools that already have their secondaries online. Vandy, Yale, Hopkins, Baylor, WashU, and the Texas schools, that I know of.

I submitted about a minute after it was possible and mine haven't been transmitted yet, as of 8am July 3. It's fun to keep checking, though. It gives me something to do, now that MCAT scores are out. This application is going to be more fun than I thought. I love anticipation (at the same time it drives me nuts).

Soonerpillow--

LOL I remember you counting down to submit AMCAS at the first possible second, so when I saw on the AAMC site that my app wasn't transmitted yet I was hoping that you's give an update on your app status!! Keep the updates coming!

Has anyone contacted AAMC to find out exactly what the "transmission date" means (when the schools VIEW it or when they RECEIVE it from AMCAS)? Please let us know if you have! Mine are still blank. 😕

I don't think the schools have necessarily "viewed" the file if it has been transmitted to them. I think the transmission date is just the latest date the school has accessed your file. When they access files I'm guessing it is to make copies or printouts to give to the various members of their reviewing committees. A lot of schools don't just have one person reviewing those primaries so I doubt the transmission date is the date that your files are VIEWED. The transmission date is exactly that...the date the school accessed and requested a transmission of your primary to them. That doesn't necessarily mean that the committee members have viewed your file for some decision making(In most cases at this point in time they are just accessing your primaries to give you a numbers screen for secondaries. Most schools do their real reviewing when they have your secondary, LORs, etc.).

Those transmission dates will change depending on the last time the school accessed your primary application. Last year that how I could tell whether or not the schools had received my august mcat scores. My transmission dates would change from something like a late August date to an October date(since october is when the aug scores come out). A couple of schools didn't even access my new scores til November.

Last year my earliest transmission date was around 7/9. Never hold AMCAS to a particular date ...

I think I understand now...I originally thought that the "transmission date" would be the same for every school I applied to... as in, the date that AMCAS "gave" my application to all of the schools I applied to. This is the reason I thought it should be filled out already.

ok, this is kinda weird...

i started filling out my online secondary for hopkins, and was setting up a new account. the strange part was that i already had an existing account for the secondary app?!? it had all my info on there as well, like birthdate, full name, and email.

i don't how they would've gotten this information (and set up an account for me already) unless they received the amcas application, or at least some part of it... which is interesting, because, according to the amcas website, my application hasn't been transmitted yet...

there's a serious communication gap going on here. 😕

That's because you had a previous application with the "ApplyYourself" network. They do a lot of applications for different programs.

Oh -- yay I've done 2 secondaries -- Columbia (not really a secondary, but eh) and WashU!

hmmm good call... i vaguely remember doing a summer research application to mayo using the same service, so that makes sense...

thanks

Official respone (I emailed AAMC):

Dear Applicant,

The transmission date indicates the most recent date that a medical school has downloaded information from AMCAS.

Transmission dates prior to your application processed date indicates the medical schools have downloaded preliminary applicant information ( contact information only ) . Transmit dates after your application processed dated indicates the medical school has downloaded your complete, verified application.

Additionally, these dates may change throughout the processing of your application, depending on how many times the medical school downloads information regarding your application.

AMCAS emailed me today and said that they would be tranmitted on the 14th. Your in the same boat as everyone else!😛

does that mean if I submit my app before July 14th I'll also be processed with the rest of you guys?

that would really suck if everyone got transmitted on july 14th, no matter if you submitted on june 3rd. all that hard work rushing to get it in early, and no reward for it.

but then again, given that i'm really trying to finish my application, it would be really nice for me. 🙂

hey, sorry if this has been asked before..but if your amcas status is "processed" does this mean that it is waiting for transmittal to the schools?

i've been told that schools review the applications by the submission date, starting with those who submitted at 12:01 am the first morning. so even though you might be transmitted and downloaded for a school on the same date as everyone else, it could be a very long time until they actually examine your application. but it shouldn't be a prob, because submitting at this time in july is still supposedly considered an "early" application. 🙂
