From my understanding, AMCAS will release application materials to schools on July 1.

Does this mean that as long as we are verified by July 1, we are NOT disadvantaged in comparison to someone who was verified on, say, June 2nd?

Basically: being verified on June 2nd and June 31st are the "same" in that schools have access to your applications at the same time, since both these apps will be released on July 1. but if you are verified AFTER July 1, then you are slightly disadvantaged.

confirm or deny, please! thanks.

Yep you got it.

alright, here's me being neurotic.
if I am verified within the week of July 1st, let's say by July 10...would you say that would negatively impact my chances or is it pretty much negligible?
I'm stressing out about a transcript that isn't able to be submitted yet.

You just won't be one of the first applicants to be reviewed. If you are verified July 10th then you may have to wait a while to receive secondaries from schools. Some schools take a while to screen whereas others send you their secondary as soon as you are verified. You can't really know these things but definitely expect some sort of lag time between verified and receiving secondaries.

Also being neurotic.
How much of a disadvantage or would it hurt my chances if I wasn't able to be verified until lets say the second week of July or so?
Or it is more of an issue of having to fill out my secondaries more quickly then someone who may have gotten their application verified quicker?

Also to add on to the above, is it okay if some secondaries take longer than the two-week turn-around? (like if it takes 3-4 weeks to send the secondary back... or is 2-3 weeks mandatory?)

I have another question - do I actually have to submit my primary to begin the verification process, or does the verification process begin as soon as my transcript is recieved?

The issue is a combination of the two. The point of applying early is to be reviewed as soon as possible. If your primary is verified later, it is sent out later, and you get secondaries later (from the schools which pre-screen, at minimum).

To an extent, you could fill out secondaries quicker than someone who has had their for a while.

You won't be reviewed until you are complete, and you aren't complete until your primary is verified and recieved, secondaries are recieved, LORs are recieved, and any declared MCAT dates have scores.

The only "mandatory" deadline for secondaries to be in is the school's individual application deadline, which ranges from Late Fall to February depending on the school.

However, submitting your secondary late negates the purpose of getting your primary in early. Schools will not review you until your app is complete, meaning primary, secondary, MCAT, all LORs, etc. The point of an early primary submission is to recieve earlier secondaries and thus get complete as early as possible for review.

Yes, verification to begin requires BOTH primary and transcripts as what they are verifying is what you have entered in in coursework matches the transcripts. Unless you have both you cant do it.

Hmm, this is mildly comforting, I wasn't able to send off my transcripts until today because of a school policy in releasing grades. This means I have more time to fine tune my primary and submit it only once my transcripts are marked as received? Or will submitting my primary put me in queue regardless of receipt of transcripts (which could be a while)?

I'll go ahead and take a lick now. The neuroticism is real, luckily I'm having a me day tomorrow.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread but is there a timeline that breaks down each individual thing, particularly for this year?

While interview slots, secondaries and initial processing is done by adcom staff, it typically isnt until September that the adcom itself sits down to review applicants as a whole. That will go on every 2-4 weeks to review incoming apps but mostly post interview apps.

By interview slots, you mean adcom staff are planning interview times, or issuing interview invites w/o adcom input?

So from what I'm understanding, you submit your primary and transcript. After about 2 weeks it becomes verified but not before July 2. After which it is sent to medical schools. For most medical schools a secondary is given right away in which you should take two weeks to right and submit? LOR are not due with the primary but should be sent by the time you submit the secondary?

When do you need to have letters submitted before it will start to hold up your application?

For the record, my primary was in Oct 1st, secondaries were submitted through Jan, and I interviewed through March. On the late side, and I still got accepted. For me, new job stuff and a better Mcat were more important then being early. The waiting will only gets harder, so cultivate patience! (I am also a 3rd year reapplicant!) GL on this cycle.
