im thinking of entering MED please tell me about both universities. positives/negatives. thanks!

First of all, your question is super vague. If you look around you'll find tons and tons of posts comparing all of the Caribbean medical schools. That'd be a good place to start if you're "thinking" about med school.

Positives: If you've got the money, they'll let you in.

Negatives: Your chances of getting a residency and practicing in the US are practically nil.

Do everything you can to get into a US school, even if it takes you a year or two to get in. If you have absolutely no other recourse, go to one of the Big 4 Caribbean schools. Don't go anywhere else. Look around this forum if you're wondering why.

Why did you single out those two schools to ask about, out of the literally dozens of medical schools in the Caribbean?

Well, then you need to tell your friend to change the criteria by which he's judging medical schools, because there are almost certainly better options available to him. There is this falsely-assumed notion that going to the Caribbean for medical is "the easy way". While it is certainly true that it is easier to get into a Caribbean medical school, there is, I think, a compelling case that can be made that successfully getting OUT of a Caribbean medical school is quite a bit more difficult. Tell your friend he needs to do much more homework.

A lot of people start down this path ultimately only to be saddled with debt and nothing to show for it. Start with the end in mind. Know and recognize the hurdles you're going to face before you start the race... and make sure you have the ability, motivation, and perseverance to jump over them when you get there.

Pas successes indicate that the school is not a fluke. As for success, I believe it's up to the individuals work ethics and perseverance. I'll let SDN know in 4 years. 😀

I don't know why your friend is considering Aureus. They have almost no residency placements, most don't even make it to 4th year, and no one knows the Step 1 pass rate. The school does not give any of this information out, or will make up some excuse like usual.

Try to find out where Aureus grads are practicing before making a decision like this. And not just 1 or 2 who are in residency, but how many start in each class, how many start clinical rotations and how many match.

Can you elaborate on this statement? From hearing from my allopathic friends, their schooling was humiliating, disorganized, and completely self-directed--school input was usually an extra barrier.
