Which medical school is the best in the country?

I heard Your Mom University has a sweet gynecology department.

In all seriousness, I think the consensus out there is a stale mate between Harvard and Hopkins, with Hopkins coming out barely on top due to its history. But I would argue that the difference between most of the top 10 or so is negligible. Penn probably trails behind at third, with a close tie for fourth among Stanford, Duke, Yale, and UCSF.

Based on what criteria?

The med school with the best looking girls is the best school IMO.

Oh man, I didnt know you can click on the numbers and see who voted for what...I'm suddenly reminded of the "Sex Fetish" poll that someone started a few months back.:scared: (sigh) welp, there goes that.

As for the thread - this is quickly going to become "what's your fave med school" or "what school would you go to if you had the choice"

The one that lets me in is the best one in my mind 😎

The best medical school in the country is the school with the least amount of hyper-competitive, pretentious nerds with debilitating aspergers. All of these schools fail.

A little bit of subjectivity is all right because we're trying to gauge the community's perception. As long as everyone is honest, then the poll serves its function as a descriptive tool.

Hold on a second....:barf:

Whichever ever school seracus goes to is the worst thats all i know

It's the list of schools people wish they go to, but realistically won't even get in the door. It's always good to dream big I suppose. After all "If you shoot for the moon, you'll only fall for the stars!" :meanie:

Plus, poll has no other option, so missing so many options. I personally wouldn't consider a school to have the highest GPA/MCAT to be the best med school for everyone. There are people who I'm sure would LOVE WashU's environment and some who would bolt in seconds.

You going to take that seracus?!

Which school does SDN think is the best in the country? I'll start the poll off with my nomination: WashU. Highest MCAT/GPA stats of any medical school out there. What do you all think?

Ebahard Harbard derp derp. Merpy merp burp derp.

Top 20 schools are the same.

A Puerto Rico Med school

seems like the best school IMO

University of Vermont COM

lol

No, but seriously. The cheapest one you can get into that's a US degree.

Edit: Although judging from the posts above, Puerto Rico aint so bad. 😆

Reputation, resources, and research output.

So two things that are irrelevant to medical education, and three things in which Harvard beats Hopkins pretty soundly.

Ermahgerhd. There is no best. Why can't people just accept that.

The best medical school is the one that you thrive at. End of story.

If Harvard or Hopkins wanted to have the highest average GPA/MCAT in the country, they would surely be able to accomplish that in one cycle. They don't take people for only the numbers though.

C'mon everybody knows Princeton is the best. 😀

In all seriousness though, Stanford...cuz it's Stanford.

Because bragging about a prestigious medical education on the basis of two irrelevant metrics is more important to some people than learning about and doing doctor things.

Dunno, pretty sure you have to have prestige to be a good doctor bro.

You guys do realize all these rankings are lobbied for and the press that prints them can't verify any data that is sent to them. There have been numerous stories written about this. Who cares what US News says? Harvard has been caught grade fixing numerous times so who believes anything they say? 9/10 undergrads graduate with honors. I don't care how well you screen potential students, that's virtually impossible with a decent curriculum and all the kids that become bums during college.

I have a better idea...Let's just ask someone who's graduated from all of them. Oh wait, that person doesn't exist. The prestige obsession on these forums sometimes is nauseating. Your patients won't care where you went to school if you really suck or if you're really good.

These days, 5/10 Harvard undergrads graduate with honors. There's a cap.

Show me an article about how Harvard lies to US News.

There is obviously no proof. They probably capped it because they have been caught cheating too many times. Hell, it just happened this year in a Intro to Congress class or something where test keys were given out. My point is that US News can only go off of data they receive. It's not like they subpoena records or have time to background check thousands of pages of data sent to them by schools. I'll try to find some stories but I am at work right now. I know for certain that NPR did a radio story about former school Presidents admitting that they sent massaged data to US News. It's similar to the way that schools used to only have certain kids take elementary schools standardized tests back in the day when funding was affected by these scores. Pay for performance has caused the same things to attempt to get higher teacher pay so what makes you think college presidents aren't stretching data and lobbying to get a better ranking. I've been around a number of graduates from all over the country in my industry and no one school has ever stood out to me. A school can maybe skew a few experiences here and there and give a kid a 1 or 2% advantage but for the most part, the school means very little in my opinion. There are good and crappy teachers everywhere.

This is worth a read:

Prestigious Emory University intentionally misreported student data to rankings magazines for more than a decade, the Atlanta school disclosed Friday, adding its high-profile name to a growing list of institutions caught up in scandals over rankings pressure.

I'm really dissapointed, here I was thinking that this thread would actually put an end to the ever-so-important debate of the best medical school...

Even this baby is laughing at you (and facepalming)!
