I'm probably going to get my Associates from a community college and then transfer into a public school here in Florida. The school I want to transfer to is New College.

Now, New College doesn't have a GPA among their students. It uses narrative evaluations instead of grades.

My concern is proving to Adcoms that I could handle upper-level science work, since the only GPA they'll be getting is from junior college.

More about the college if you're wondering: It's a liberal arts college, small (around 800 students), and from what I hear it has stellar academics.

Edit: "A" route...

I am not familiar with narrative evaluations, however reading this from their website sounds a lot like the way dental students are evaluated in the lab...

Students’ progress should be based on demonstrated competence and real mastery rather than on the accumulation of credits and grades.

So you'd at least have a leg to stand on. The thing you'll have to worry about is that you'll have a substantial amount of credits from a community college. D-Schools frown upon CC credits, and most of them have a limit as to how many credits can be from a CC.

You need to call some schools and talk to them. When they're not in this busy application season, they definitely have time for taking your questions. I sat down with a few deans of admission earlier this year, so they can be reached!

Without grades at your new college, I would assume that dental schools would look more closely at your letters of recommendation from science professors. But contact a few schools to be sure.

Definitely call some schools and ask, you probably won't get any decent information about it here. I'm imagining that many people run into this every year, and that there is a number of people from these schools that don't have grades applying to dental schools, so there must be a system in place to work with it.

And don't stress about the CC stuff, people are always so negative about it, but it's really not a big deal for the most part, and since you won't be able to prove yourself with great grades in your upper division classes, you'll just need to be able to do that by doing well on the DAT.

Good luck!
