Hey guys, I am wondering what aspect of Anatomy & Physiology to focus on for pharmacy schools. I mean do we really need stuff like knowing the names of bones in our body? any advice is appreciated.

Yeah, I don't think names of bones are very important, but do focus on the neuro stuff. All the electrophysiology and action potential stuff; tracts and pathways in the brain and spinal cord (this will come back to haunt you when you study how to treat Parkinson's, schizophrenia, etc.) Definitely, definitely learn the heart and all the concepts related to blood flow and the cardiovascular system. Endocrine and renal are both very good. Also, anything with a receptor and a signaling pathway--these are likely drug targets.

Learn it all well the first time and you won't have a hard time when it comes up again. We hit physiology running this semester. The bones, their prominences, muscles and their origins/insertions haven't come up, but provide a point of reference for a few things.

It's not really the anatomy that's important, most of this stuff is physiology. Vascular system=drug delivery, renal system=drug filtration, liver= drug metabolism. Rates, reactivities, control, and disease are potential topics.

I'm glad I'm taking the combined Anatomy/physiology course, it provides a structure/function feel to the subject.

I agree with tweester. If you try to actually learn this semester pharmacy school will be so much easier on you!​

I would learn all that you can. In our anatomy class we covered absolutely everything, bone names, bone landmarks, muscles, vessels, nerves, etc.

this semester in physio we are covering all of the major systems in the body as you would expect. I wouldn't focus on any one part, as much as I would try to comprehend it all, and it will make the classes easier when you get there. Taking A&P my senior year helped this year since I was only 1 year removed from the classes.
