Anesthesia Program At Univ of Colorado Denver

I was thinking about moving to Colorado for residency training and wondering what people thought of the quality of the anesthesia training at University of Colorado at Denver. I am interested in a less academic setting that focuses on training good clinical anesthiologists, especially in peds and OB. Also, if you want to practice in Colorado is it best to train there? Thanks for your help.

I am pondering the same thing as jajtufts. If anyone out there has any info or opinions on U Colorado's anesthesia program, I would also be very thankful if you would share it.

This program is your average middle of the road anes program. The benefit of being out here is the mountains. Thats the honest truth. However, the teaching is not all that great so you have to discipline yourself to stay off your bike/skis and hit the books once in a while. The good thing is that the administration keeps giving us Anesthesia Knowledge Tests which usually are a kick in the butt. Also, the VA and Denver Health months are great. You learn alot, do a bunch of procedures and the attendings are very approachable. The months at the University hospital can be hit or miss. As a resident, you are treated like a member of a workforce and the relationship with attendings is very professional. Not much small talk and rarely any OR teaching. So those months can be tedious.

Denver as a city is a W-loving hick town trying to be a city. But you do have access to some of the best geography in the world and the activities that come with it. I moutain bike atleast 3 times a week and hit the slopes almost every weekend. This is basically true for most of the residents and attendings as well.

Not really sure why I'm interested in anesthesia in Denver, CO.....I just matched into ENT about 1500 miles away. I need to remember to log off when I'm finished posting; especially when I'm in the med school computer lab.
I did interview in Denver for ENT. Nice city, lots to do, but $$$. The ENT dept is pretty good, but I wasn't too crazy about how they have to cover Denver Metro and the Fitz campus while on home call. For those who aren't familiar with the city, the two areas are about 20-30 minutes apart (if I remember correctly). But those new hospitals at the Fitz campus are going to be VERY, VERY nice when they are finished.

I can't comment on Colorado's program, but I think it's odd to resurrect an almost 12 year old thread instead of just starting a new one. Just my two cents.
