Hi guys,

I am applying pretty broadly and will be moving with my wife, daughter, and mother-in-law. I want to avoid places like NY, NY due to cost of living (and not wanting to spend $2k/mo for small single bedroom.

Besides all the "top tier" name brand programs, what are some decent mid-tier programs located in family friendly areas? Anyone from these areas who can vouch for them?

Scott & White in Temple Tx.

Does Texas apply as east of Texas? If so most programs in Texas prob fall under low cost of living compared to NY.

If you want low cost of living and good training. Kentucky and Alabama are actually not mentioned much but excellent training programs.

Lot of the top tier programs are definitely not in family friendly areas. Hopkins and Yale you’ll probably get stabbed in the parking lot.

Lots of inexpensive family friendly areas around Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Rochester, etc. All with respectable programs.

No residency programs in Charlotte. Closest would be WFU which is a good hour, hour and a half north.

But yes, any of the 3 programs in NC would probably fit the bill.

UTSW is a great program in Texas and I think the housing prices in Dallas are fairly reasonable
