Another check my stats out and tell me what you think thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
your EC's and Post Bacc GPA should get you in someplace... I've seen people with less than you get interviews at really good schools. Good Luck!

That's one impressive profile!👍

come on....do you seriously need us to tell you you're in....

come on we all want to be loved 😍

Thanks everybody for the SDN love!! Your postive comments are an encouragment!

As some of you are wondering, my avatar is of the Big Kahuna - a longhaired dachshund. We like to call him Kahuna for short...

You're in! You can tell them I said so!!

This thread made my wife's day - she was grinning from ear to ear! 😀

I gotta remember that an "SDN acceptance" to dental school still doesn't guarantee the real thing, but I won't turn it down!

SDN School of Dental Medicine Class of 2011, here I come!!

i have a feeling that an 18 in the dat is not good enough any more for this cycle.

So, do you guys think I should retake the DAT to be more competetive at 20+? Or would this be overkill?

I guess there is always a risk that I could do lower, but having done it before (DAT test prep process, etc...) - I am dang sure if I had to take it again I could do even better.

I am willing to do whatever it takes to get into dental school (even if that means retaking the DAT) because I know without a doubt that this is the career which I am going to do for the rest of my life.

Just my .02 these days...

i would say don't worry about retaking it right now. i looked at your predent profile and only 2 things stick out as potentially negative - your scores on the sciences portion of the dat (PAT and RC look fine) and your undergrad GPA, which you can't do anything about now.

everything else looks really good, and i think with your post-bac gpa being so high, that will overshadow the low undergrad gpa.

your EC's are great, and i think will be very impressive to many schools. i would wait it out until dec. and then if things aren't going well, start studying to re-take it in the spring. when did you submit your aadsas app?

Thanks for looking at my profile! I definitely agree with your assessment, it's the waiting game at this point that can get us second guessing ourselves. 😀

On my predents - I submitted my AADSAS on July 12, took the DAT on August 7th, but had some issues with my scores being sent out so they didn't get sent out until September 18th. 😱

The thing you have going for you is that you did really well in the two sections that you really cant improve all that much by studying (PAT and RC). I think you will be fine but if you need to take it again it looks like you have the drive to do really well. Good luck dude.

something doesn't add up. how do you come up with your aa? is it an average of all the scores? cause your's doesn't come up to 18. just a thought. thanks and good luck!!

When you take the DAT they will calculate the AA for you. Its the average of you Bio, Gen Chem, O Chem, RC, and QR scores.

are you a fellow snowboarder? anyway, your ECs are crazy. i hope you get in. you deserve it. what's up with case though? GL

It is not an average of the scaled scores in each section but it scales your scores out of the questions you get right out of every section added together (except PAT).

believe me man you can get in, not because of your stats and not because of your EC's but because of the effort you put forth into both of those factors mentioned. Schools look heavly on those, I have an interview at stony brook and upenn and my scores are average and i'm at a state schools with basically no name. Your hard work and dedication goes a long way, and is always recognized by the admissions committee, so apply away!!! and GL

have you heard anything from NYU?

wow.
Your ECs are really good. And even though your DAT science scores aren't considered competitive, they are still very very good scores. Plus, you killed the RC and PAT. So I'd say you're a shoe-in.

yeah - I did a little snowboarding in high school but haven't much time for that these days - especially since I now live in the flatlands of Chicago. (never mind that MN doesn't have that many hills either)

This is because out of the science sections, there are 40 questions for Biology, and 30 each for Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. Thus, biology is weighed a little bit heavier than the other sections.

so for ts it's not just the average of the three scores? (biology,chem,ochem)/3

Update:

Well, I now have been rejected from Temple and Case. I am still pretty optimistic about the whole process as a HUGE number of people have applied to those schools and they just had to reject people just because of the sheer volume of applicants. This doesn't mean that I am not nervous, though. I am pretty sure that I will get in somewhere and if I don't - my plan will be something like this: Study, Study, Study for the DAT and take it sometime in late April. I know without a doubt I can get 20+ (if not higher) on all sections with the schedule I have planned for this upcoming spring. Last year I was taking quite a heavy load and doing research for my masters thesis, so I didn't get to study as much as I would have liked for my DAT. I studied hard for the DAT I just took, but I know I can do better if I need to.

Anyway - thanks for all the postive responses! Best of luck to everybody applying this cycle!

nope - this explains by my 17 on General Chemistry, 17 on Organic Chemistry and 18 on my Biology contributed to my 18 Total Science.

Good luck to you burton. Yes, that's right, think positively. The dental field deserves some people like you who are very dedicated.

Hey SDN peeps,

I've read quite a few "how do I measure up" threads in my day and I figured it was about time that I gave it a shot.

Check my stats out on predents and let me know what you think. I'd be interested in some feedback if you have any.

I worry about my chances all the time...my GPA and DAT are roughly the same as yours...although I dont have a post-bac GPA. but ur EC's will turn a lot of heads..and i'm sure if an adcom had to choose b/t you or me, even though i have been lucky enough to steal a couple interviews...you'd probably get selected....good for you, sucks for me....good luck everyone!!:luck:

By the way - no interviews either... 🙁

So nobody out there thinks I need to retake my DAT this cycle? I was expecting at least a few people to say this...

Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining, but I'll do whatever it takes. That's the bottom line for me!

Well, your GPA is adequate, however you DAT is bit on the low side. Your extracurriculars look impressive. Ultimately it boils down to DAT and GPA--most schools initially screen applicants based on these two criteria.

If I were in your toes, I would consider retaking the DATs if I thought I would be able to improve significantly on my score. To wait to see if schools offer interviews or not to you, that is still a big question--time is big factor.

Yes it is an average of the scaled scores in each section. From the Score Report...

"The Academic Average is the average of five scores rounded to the nearest whole number: Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry."

This is unlike the Total Science score...

"The Total Science score is a standard score based on all 100 questions in the Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry tests. It is not the average of the three science standard scores."

Thanks for clearing that up!!! 👍

Ok.. I got a update on AADSAS saying that my application was denied from NOVA. I am suprised to see nobody else on predents.com has been rejected yet.

Wondering if anybody else has got this status... Anyway, I'll try to get more info from NOVA as to why my application was denied - but its too late this week.

Ah - well, moving on...

Your not the only one. Suu-an told me my science gpa was to low to be considered. whatever.

Hey Envision

I was just looking at your predents and that made me feel better about the NOVA news...

What was the science GPA cut-off? I was pretty suprised by the denial... I know someone with a 3.41 science GPA who got an interview at NOVA. Mine is 3.43, so I would be curious to see what the number is.

haha, im glad i could help 🙄 . there is no "cut off." I believe armorshell got an interview and his gpa is a bit lower then mine. I guess as a whole, the rest of my application did not compensate for my 3.3 science gpa. She says they like high TS and AA, 20+. that might be your reason, but i honestly don't know. if you want actual feedback, you'l have to talk to Su-ann. gl.

yeah - its gotta be the TS and AA...

I saw in the Nova interview post that they don't really look at PAT scores. With my 24 and your 25 - I guess that's right. Congrats as your already sitting on 4 interviews. None for me yet, but I am confident... Just a waiting game at this point.

All right.. I got the december 1st Marquette rejection and still no interviews..

Any thoughts anybody?

Why did you withdraw from the 2 interviews that you had lined up before you interviewed? Or did you withdraw before any offer for an interview was made? Maybe the answer is somewhere in this thread. Just curious.
I got rejected from NOVA too.

Anyway, I think your stats are completely competative! I'm a little confused as to why you're getting no love! Your DAT scores are great.

I am planning to withdraw with no interview invitations from AZDOH and BU. I don't know what NOVA is doing - on predents, I saw a guy got into Harvard who was rejected from NOVA...

This whole process is completely random and totally subjective I am amazed that I actually got one acceptance.

OH yeah, my predents thing is under CHM, not cymbidium. I didn't realize people cross-referenced b/t SDN and pre-dents!

Chin up. I really do think you'll get in somewhere. I have a non-trad. major (Art/ Art History) and I got in somewhere (NYU)

I am still considering retaking the DAT by the way..

That's a tough call b/c you have a great PAT score. If you're confident that you can keep your PAT up there on a second try then I say go for it!

I am pretty confident in my PAT ability, it comes pretty natural. It's just a matter of putting in the hours to study again.
