Hello,
Just wondering what people's opinions are about doing post bacc at a school with no formal post bacc program....I live on long island and have strongly considered Hunter College (which is in the city as you know)...but I live RIGHT near 2 private 4 year colleges and it would be soooo much more convenient to go to one of them.....neither college is all that competitive or prestigious but I'm wondering if it would make a difference....Hunter's reputation seems to make it a better program than most....would high grades from a third or 4th tier college as a DIY post bacc hurt me? or is it really just about grades and mcats? thanks i know this topic is debated but i value everyone's opinion.

hey..i was told by the director of the prehealth program at Cal State that taking these kinds of classes anywhere aren't going to make a difference to admissions....like these chem, bio, physics classes are all pretty much the same...some programs are just more expensive than others. in the end, you need to score solid on them, but here's where it gets tricky when you have options between programs.... find out all the schools that you want to take classes at..whether it be a formal or non formal postbacc program and ask them what their percentages are of getting people into med schools and where are they placing them. you'll get an idea of what school has the greater networking schools for particular med schools. for example, my choices are rutgers in NJ and cal state here in LA...both of which i'm a resident by default... so between 2 state schools you can argue prestige, but really...who cares..all the classes are really the same...then you can argue money....most education on the East will ALWAYS cost more, and in this case...10+K at rutgers vs. 1200 a quarter here in LA...then you can argue placement of students...schools in CA will cater to residents...UCLA, USC, UCSD..and so on... likewise for NJ...UMDNJ, robert wood johnson and so on... in the end, where do you ultimately want to be and what school with what program has the greater chances. these schools can tell you exactly where they place their students and what formal or non formal programs they took to get there. i would just grill the directors until i got all the answers they need.....
