I apologize for another one of these questions, but I'm trying to figure out what might be best for me. I started my prep about a month ago and it was going well I thought. I took the UW1 exam and the NBME 6 exam and am hovering right around a 200 in both. The last exam I took was a week ago and I didn't see much improvement between the 2. My date right now is schedule for the 23rd. My plan is to give FA another thorough review throughout this week, take another practice exam on Friday, and make a decision about what to do.
My question is-I've been talking to my dean throughout this process and I've been recommended by others to push back my prep an additional month and start clinical rotations a month late. I believe my dean would be receptive to this if I truly wasn't ready (there are several other students in my class doing this), but I'm curious if any of you have been in a similar situation and how you approached it? On one hand, I'm pleased with my 3rd year schedule and am excited about starting on the wards. But, on the other hand, I think the significance of a poor Step 1 score would far outweigh just taking the test to get it over with. I'm not trying to destroy the test, I think I would be happy with a score in the 220 range, I just feel a little scared at this point and was curious what some opinions were.
An additional question would be, if I were to postpone, it would give me about an additional 3 weeks to prep (I would still go through the 2 week introductory to clerkships course with my classmates and pick up studying after this). What do you think would be the best way to go about this? By the end of this week I will have gone through FA twice and World once, along with the Goljan audio and review books only used for supplements if needed. Would it be best to go through World again and maybe pick up kaplan also and just keep reviewing FA, or should I plan on introducing more sources? Thanks!
