I searched but was surprised I couldn't find the answer to this question.

For those of you who used RX starting from the beginning of M2, did you 1) annotate in the previous issue of FA and not use the most recent one for dedicated study time 2) not annotate anything until January when the newest edition comes out 3) or not really use RX at all to annotate into FA?

Any other options? I am trying to figure out if it is worth it to start it right away or just start it in Jan with the new edition.

I started it in January with the new edition. Found it very helpful, I would follow first aid with my curriculum, read the system then do all of the RX questions for that system and annotate incorrects/extra information into first aid. Finished rx in may, except maybe 400 of the "easy" questions I didn't feel were worth the time.

UMSLERx notes/explanations are not that in depth and the majority of the questions displays the FA pages from which they derived the questions from. The question that you need to ask yourself:

Which book will you use during your dedicated study period? 2013 is great since it lacks a lot of errors compared to 2012 but 2014 may contain "verbage" updates since apparently the Step 1 wording has changed (probably won't change a lot actually)

Also, if you do annotate Rx, I would avoid writing too much. Leave space for UWorld annotations (when you incorporate it during your dedicated study period); these explanations provide much more context. Personally I'd just do Rx, get a feel for the questions throughout the year, slightly annotate a few words only if there is no FA reference page attached and it is something that you deem high-yield. Also keep in mind that what is high-yield in your opinion will change throughout the year, I remember annotating the role of every specific antibody into my FA2010 during the school year and that wasn't helpful much. In the end, your main annotations should come from UWorld. As far as my Rx annotations; the only thing that I added was "almond breath=cyanide poisoning" since UWorld didn't have any questions on it and I wasn't sure if FA had it there somewhere.

I did #1, but also occasionally peaked at a pdf of 2013 for discrepancies. But, I'm always more comfortable with one refereance as opposed to juggling 2 diff FA versions.
