Anxious about Interview Invitation

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm sure you applied way too top heavy. The fact that you are worried "you might not be able to have a shot at any of the top 20 med schools" highlights how important that is to you. Reprioritize what is more important, being a doctor or going to a top med school. I'm not saying dont apply to all top schools, but make sure you have a good number of lower tier and mid tier schools to go along with it. If you get into a top school, great, but if you dont, go somewhere else you thought you fit in and fulfill your dream of being a doctor. Your future patients wont care. Best of luck

Ace your two interviews. Stay humble and patient. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Don't take anything for granted. Do your best on the two interviews; I highly recommend a mock interview. I'm surprised you haven't gotten more love, but I also think you could have applied a bit earlier.

I agree with the advice above to focus more about being a doctor than getting into a Top 20. If you get accepted into a school, be happy and proud. Wish you the best!

Edit: Noticed you didn't mention shadowing. What about your LoR's? I can't help but to think there might be a flag somewhere in your app; maybe not a red one but a yellow one. 😕

Thanks for your advice.

Yeah, as you pointed out, I did not have shadowing, but I applied anyway since my clinic stuff was counseling, which was supposedly sufficient to cover up for lack of shadowing according to my advisor.

As far as my LORs go, I don't wanna say they were superb (i mean who knows what the other person thinks of me ultimately), but at least, I didn't feel un-confident after talking to these professors. Anyways, my school's a trimester system, so I could not get spring grades and be ready for AAMC to process my app until 28th of June... I submitted all the secondaries within a week after receiving them (BU being exception...).

First, at my school, we interview as many people in Jan/Feb as in Nov/Dec.
Second, we tend not to issue interview invites more than 6-8 weeks in advance.
Third, if you were complete at the end of September, the vast majority of applicants were queued ahead of you. If you are interviewed it is likely to be in the New Year.

You need to hold tight. You should know where you stand in early December.

As Goro mentioned, be patient.

I feel ya. I have similar stats and 2 pubs + varsity athlete leadership experience. I haven't heard back from many schools and I'm thinking it's a mix of applying a bit late (complete late august-mid September) and only applying to about 10 schools, half of which are pretty highly ranked. I might have done things a little differently had I known where I'd be now, but like you I have a few II's and I'm just going to be excited about that and hope that I get in to at least one so that I can become a doctor. The waiting game definitely sucks, but try to remember that you aren't alone 🙂
