I thought everyone might like to know that I talked to Baylor and Houston today to see when second round letters would be sent out.

Houston told me that their second round letters would not be sent out until the first of February.

Baylor said that their second round acceptance committee has not even met yet, but that second round letters would also be sent the first part of February.

Is this the same information everyone else is getting?

I interviewed at Houston yesterday, and Dr. Pierpoint said that letters would be mailed out this Friday. Where did you get your info from?

The last acceptance date for the 1st round letters at SA was this last Monday, Jan 10th, so I'm sure they'll be stepping up to the plate soon and sending out second rounders. Anyone have any more info about when Baylor and Houston might be sending out their second rounders?? 😀

Houston, sending out acceptances in January, from above post, could be early as Friday.

Will see.

Yea it was real cool. The dental students all seemed to love the school. It seems like they're getting alot of new technology, which is a plus. I strained my neck trying to follow Dr. Pierpoint as he walked around the room though. why does he do that!

Maybe he wants everybody to hear him talk, or when its dark, people tend to fall asleep. Can't catch any Z's if someone is pacing the room back and forth. During the research talk, students fell a sleep.

i talked to a lady in the admissions office today and a member of the ad-com committee and both told me that baylors second round interviews are winding up and that the committe is meeting later this month - both also said that letters would be mailed out in the first part of february. when i asked for a specific date - none was given...

so the wait continues... 😎

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner with an answer for you. I talked with Sherree White in the office of student affairs. She was the one who said that the letters probably would not go out until the first of Feb.

Does anyone know when the first round applicants have to respond by? That information would give us a better idea of when the second round letters might go out.

First Rounders Have Until January 14th...Friday

Just bumpin it up so hopefully if anyone hears anything from Houston (or San Antonio) that we know!!!

My interview with baylor is next monday, anybody got any suggestions on hotels to stay at that are near or in close proximity to the dental school in DALLAs.

thanks again guys

I got a cheap flight up there and flew back the same day. Saves on car and hotel expenses. If interested, try Southwest.

Today I got a letter from San Antonio. I was really excited thinking it could be a acceptance. Turns out it was just a letter stating that I need a series of Hep B shots to matriculate due to some code change. Kinda burst my bubble, but I guess I'm still in the runnin. Anyone else get this letter that has not been accepted yet?

That stinks!

Beach, thanks for the suggestion, but it turns out the cost of flying to Dallas is gonna be more expensive then staying over night and driving.

So knowbody got any second round letters. It just confirms that UT houston has not sent out the second round letters.

I got that letter last week. I loved how the first line started off with "Dear Accepted..." "or prospective student,". The letter was dated Jan 3, and I didn't get it till the 14th! And I live in San Antonio! Good luck with UTHSCSA!

It is disturbing that for those going to UTSA that you need the entire series done by July 18th. It takes six months to finish the series and today is the 18th (I got my letter last Friday). That means that even if you could get an appointment today to start your series, that you would not on the deadline. So what, do they not let you into school if you can't finish the shots by that time?

I think you have to have started the series, not necessarily finished the series when school starts. I could be wrong on this.

I could be wrong too, but it says "you must show proof of this immunization series, along with other immunizations, at registration on July 18th, 2005..."

Nobody will be able to register 🙂

Hey guys I got the same letter on Saturday last. I had my first Hep B shot today along with TB test. I plan on taking my next Hep B shot this time next month, and the final one sometime in May. The nurse at the student health clinic at UTSA explained that the #2 shot has to be at least one month after #1, and the final, #3, at least two months after #2 and four months after #1. There shouldn't be any problems, time-wise, with completing the Hep B series before school starts if you start soon.
P.S. It wasn't painful at all 😀 😀
SE

If you look at the letter real close, it says that 2 months between injections is the RECOMMENDED time..There are some "fudge days" with this wording and everyone who's accepted should have no problem getting them done..But don't wait until mid to late Feb b/c then it might be too late..

On the website, it says "or proof of immunity". If you've had the vaccine for any reason within the past 5 years or so, you should be able to get a quick test done for active immunity rather than going in for 3 shots and spending more $.

That was totally a dirty trick. If I had not already read your post I would have gone crazy for nothing. But knowing what it was I left it sealed and on the table with the rest of the mail. When my family got home and saw the sealed envelope they thought I had overlooked it and started getting excited. I tried to act like I didn't know what they were doing but I couldn't keep a straight face for long. Anyway, I was able to have a little fun with this letter thanks to you.

Anything yet? I just want to know what day they are mailing out. I think this round is harder than the 1st round. At least then we had a time frame.

I thought the interviews went really well, but I have this feeling that I interviewed way too late. Its matter of numbers of qualified applicants versus few seats open.

As far as second round letters going out, some of us were told that it would be 2 or 3rd week of february. So will see what happens.

Overall I liked Baylor, great facility, great education, students were somewhat friendly. Location, not that big a deal. Dr. long is especially nice and so was his staff. The interviews themselves were pretty laid back, except for one interviewer, although this person was really nice, I felt like I didn't have enough time to explain my answers, felt rushed a little. Overall I think the interviews were great, 20 minutes per interview was the only draw back.

I forgot who told me to tell the cashier to keep the change for the baylor bucks, as per there request, I told the cashier to keep the change, and hopefully that will equal lucky acceptance.

any questions for me
let me know

As far as acceptances are concerned, when was the latest that anybody heard as far as an acceptance to UT houston or Baylor,

HD

I noticed in the acceptance thread that Destin4Dentist got accepted to Houston. I guess the 2nd round has started.

Oh wait, I just read it closer and it says that he/she is REadding to Houston. So never mind, didn't mean to get everyone's hopes up.

Hi Everyone!

I'm new as a member here, but I've been checking with this site since I began the application process.

I just wanted to ask you all a few questions. First of all, did anyone get a letter in the mail, ever, telling them that they were "waitlisted" or on some sort of "alternate list"...??

Secondly, I keep hearing that 2nd round letters will (hopefully) go out sometime in the beginning of Feb. BUT lets say you have an acceptance letter from another school and they're expecting your down-payment by the first week of Feb. ...should you wait to see if you hear from the Texas schools? Or should you just pay the money and hope...(doing this means you might loose up to $500).

Any advice?

go ahead and pay that deposit. You don't want to get stuck without a spot if you don't hear from the texas schools. Just to put it into perspective: consider how much money you'll save if you do get into a texas school and won't have to pay private school tuition. $500 won't be that big a deal.

Being that this is my second go around, this is especially frustrating. I thought oh interviewing early at UT houston, I would hear first round, then come december 1st no word, january 15 no word, what the hellllllllllllll. the whole you could be that person who has to apply a third time in order to get accepted is starting to become a realization. $hittttttt!

Hey, thanks!

Thats probably what I'll end up doing anyways.

Umm...you didn't tell me if you ever got a letter letting you know you were on an alternate list in one of the Texas schools. Do they do that anymore?

I have a friend who's in her 4th year and apparently she knew she was an alternate sometime in January or something.

I'm not sure they do that anymore...or do they??

Quick question...how late is late? The date when TMDSAS processed (i.e. $) your app or the day when the app was complete and into the schools?

Baylor- last interview was January 24th, 2005
San Antonio- interviews were done in middle January.
UT houston- I believe they finished interviews On January 24th, 2005 as well

Second round letters-
Baylor- said they would be going out second or third week of February
San Antonio?
UT houston- they sent out a 3-5 letters out this week, but are waiting till february to really get second round letters out.

Hope this helps some peeps.

hockeydentist, thanks for the update.

san antonio's first round letter deadline was earlier than the rest (Jan 10), so one would have to assume that their letters would be out soon--but I have no idea really!!! Best luck to us all and let us know if the letters start arrivin!!!

Well, my files got completed in late October/ early November. I guess I was even lucky to get an interview with San Antonio (Late November). I thought that I should at least hear from other two schools since I had pretty good DAT scores (19/20/17). Well, I guess I have to just wait few more weeks...

Hey, everybody ,

Do not want to upset anyone, but I did talk to UT Houston yesterday; they told me they sent few letters last week and that it was their 2nd round of admissions; and that the class is full for now.
