Here's my situation:
I am a raising senior with a 3.4 overall GPA and at 3.0 BCMS. I am an American Studies major so the only science classes I've taken are the basic prerequisites. I go to a school with a fairly solid reputation known for its lack of grade inflation so students from my school generally get accepted into medical school with below-average stats. I think my stats are too below average, though my premed adviser, who is somewhat incompetent, thinks I might be okay if I score well on the MCAT. I don't think I'm in a position to score highly enough to make up for my GPA, and I'd rather be in a position to have a little more freedom to choose my school than be desperate to just get in anywhere. So I think the best route for me is to do a post-bacc after I graduate next spring. I'm kind of confused about the different types of post-baccs. I know some are for people who have taken no science before and some give graduate degrees. I'm looking for one where I can just take classes for a year to raise my GPA. The one's I've looked at are at places like Penn, UConn, Drexel, Rutgers, and Cal State L.A. (I'm from California). I know there are more; I just don't know where to find them. I'd talked to my premed adviser who recommended really good schools that I'm not eligible for because I've finished all my basic science coursework. I don't care about prestige, but since I go to a challenging school, I don't want medical schools to think I'm trying to go to an "easier" school to raise my GPA. Given my situation, are there other places that I just look at?
