Any correlation between ACT/SAT and DAT?

Obviously they are very different tests but I'm wondering if your DAT results were similar to your ACT/SAT results? People talk about being good or bad test takers and I'm just curious how much that factors into your overall results.

well i got a 19 on the ACT and a 20 on the DAT....lololol but then again i was a slacker in high school (2.4 gpa...never did homework, never studied) glad i got my act together after that!

I got 4.33 weighted, 3.96 unweighted GPA in high school. 24 on my ACT. My SAT reading = 460. SAT Math 630. SAT Writing 560.

20 BIO, 20 RC, 20 QR, 20 PAT, 22 GC, 24 OC for my DAT. College GPA is 3.94 oGPA and 3.95 sGPA.

I guess they correlate in a way.

You make it sound like all the dumb and lazy people are going to dental school. I am not that smart but I do work hard and if I had to choose again, I'd still choose dentistry (and I can back that claim with my stats in the pics below). Also, a lot of my foreign friends have really high SAT scores (because they spent 2+ years prepping for it so they can go to US colleges), and they end up in other fields than in medicine or dental...

My point is, SAT/ACT may give a general idea of someone's academic capabilities but are not great indicators whether you will go to med school or dental school. So overconfidence won't help you with your professional application. Go in with a humble attitude and apply broadly.

I think 20ish on the ACT is national average, so that would be similar to getting 18ish on the DAT from a straight percentage?

bahahaha dude i could have gone to med school if i wanted, just like most other pre dents....but believe it or not i didnt pick dentistry because its "easier"....there are DO schools out there accepting students without MCAT scores lolol. i could have easily been one of those "prestigious med students"

Right??? This argument MD/DO vs DMD/DDS is asinine at best. Many of us also could have gone to med school. The competition isn't so much greater as to think we aren't capable.

for what it's worth, I took the SAT when it was 1600 pt total, got 600 verbal, 800 math.

received 23RC, 23QR.

From what I remember, SAT verbal was more of reading comprehension + vocabulary, and DAT RC is more like fact recall in limited time.
SAT math was super easy for me for some reason, QR on the other hand is another beast. It's trickier, and we are forced to solve problems even quicker than we do on SAT.


The correlation that really matters should be not these, but the correlation between RC and D1 GPA.
I think I remember reading somewhere that your rc score correlates with D1 GPA (and maybe TS with D2 GPA???)

exactly. I personally have a 34 MCAT which can get me a spot at an MD school but I'll refrain from being a masochist and spending half my life in a hospital. Oh and I'd prefer to go to bed knowing I won't be randomly called in at 4 am for an emergency case.

Haha when I said "med school," I meant a US MD school, not one of those DO or Caribbean schools. I thought that was a given lol. At least amongst my peer group from high school, which is pretty well-ranked in the nation, the smartest ones went for MD/PhDs or well-ranked MD programs. Also, an average US non-Caribbean MD student is definitely more intelligent and more ambitious than an average dental student (in my opinion of course). That's honestly the way it should be considering how high stakes the field of medicine is sometimes.

I had a 4.0 in high school and 32 ACT, yet I chose dentistry because I like the hands-on aspect.

My opinion is that your opinion is stupid. My 3.55 GPA could get me interviews at medical schools, but I chose to pursue dentistry for myriad other reasons.

Ok, I made the DO reference to point out how "easy" it can be to get into med school, but to your point i know people that are accepted into MD programs as well who are not smarter nor more ambitious than me. Matter of fact they were always coming to me for help in Ochem. I dont say this to toot my own horn im just sick of this holier than thou attiude had by most prospective/current MD students and disgruntled dental students.

26 ACT, 20 DAT, and 3.95 GPA at a pretty difficult college. Hard to say if there's a correlation since I took the ACT the day after getting concussed in a football game and never studied yet scored average for the DAT even though I studied for a month.
