I have a question regarding the pay raise, as far as how much it should be. I tried calling HR to no avail. PM me if you'd like.

Whatever they will give you for the promotion don't do it. It's not worth the hassle. They hire idiots that you will be responsible for. You will be held more responsible for meaningless numbers.

Well, let's not be hasty, it's all about just how much more $. If they pay an extra $50K a year, hell yeah I would probably take that option. $20K.... only if it's no more than 4 more hours of work per week. Less than that? Not worth my time.

Yeah, it doesn't take that much overtime (if you get time and a half), to make an extra 20k. Only about 6 hours a week.

if ur lucky a dollar or 2, but its just about how desparate they are. It's all about negotiating. There is no definitive answer, everything is subjective.

Don't believe in their BS about great PIC bonuses. Unless u can reach their impossible numbers, u won't get crap. I've even heard of DM's not giving people raises and just tell em that they receive a higher bonus.

I worked for them for like 12 years (thank God i don't wnymore), and would definately say without a shadow of a doubt...that I would never encourage anyone to do it. The only way i can possibly justify it is if u want to evnetually be a DM. IMO

CVS and time and a half- you must be joking. Your going to work extra for free. time and a half:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I received my merit-based raise of 3.00% last month and was promoted to PIC like 3 weeks thereafter. The raise on my paystub was only 65 cents or something ridiculous. I was expecting a $1 raise like my sup said. Time to make another stink I guess.

Also, common misconception that bonuses are about reaching impossible numbers. This time around the biggest (by far) determining factor is the % over script budget, and even 5% over gets you a very decent compensation.

wow there's a lot of stink on CVS in this forum.. makes me kinda of nervous since i'm goin to start working for one soon (not as a pharmacist but still worrisome)

Before I left CVS in July 2009, my projected bonus was $14,000. After taxes maybe $8000. Glad I left...

Key word----PROJECTED. would never happen

Actually, after i left the SP said that was gonna be my bonus, but since i quit, no one would get it. We were 300 -500 rxs over budget almost every week. Good times.....NOT

for the majority of my years at CVS i was at a high volume store so the "projected" bonus looked great on paper. Our volume kept increasing year by year, 1 year we absolutely crushed it. But guess what, then they start reaising the budget higher and higher. it's like a cat and mouse game. Of all my years in CVS, i think i got a decent bonus once.

Well it sounds like you took the PIC job....enjoy...good luck

First there is nothing PROJECTED about your bonus. You are given the criteria up front and with the math skills we posses, it's easy to see what your bonus will be as the year progresses. There are no surprises, they don't dangle something in front of you and yank it away. They don't change the criteria in the middle of the year. They do change the criteria from year to year, but once it's set they leave it alone.

This sort of **** is exactly why I quit my job at Radioshack when I used to work there. Once they saw that you were surmounting their goals significantly and making it into the super bonus/commissions every week, they started raising the bar every quarter until it was very hard to break into the bonus/commissions unless it was some holiday where people buy a lot of stuff or new products were coming out. (Went from something like having a $60/hr of sales to make commission to like $180/hr of sales.)

That's not BS, that's capitalism, that's business, that's the country you live in. That's how it was, how it is, and how it always will be. Welcome to Corporate America

Can't speak for your area but in mine it is not uncommon to be given the criteria for the bonus 2 to 3 months into the fiscal year. So, when I say projected it is projected. Assuming you can meet all the metrics that they give you. can't speak for you but if you are in an area with a declining population, increased competition, offer less services than the competition(such as delivery etc) it is a pipe dream to say you are going to increase scripts by large percentages every year. as someone else said- make a decent bonus one year and they raise the bar to make it unobtainable. Also, while we are discussing your company- do all regions/areas etc set completely unrealistic flu shot goals? stores that did 200 last year were given budgets of 800 to 1000. Now this is unrealistic however the really stupid part is the constant pounding on a daily basis about how many flu shots you gave today. also, the constant email stories that you have to send to the DM telling him why you are not reaching your flu shot goal and what action plan do you have to correct this. You generally have 24 to 48 hours to come up with a stupid story or the emails get worse.

Odd but never about any interactions you caught or lives you may have saved. Just how many dollars in the register today. Very hard to focus on the profession when you spend time writing stories.

In the DFW area it was 1 dollar an hour more. Yes that's right 1 dollar. Part of the reason I am no longer a PIC with CVS
i am a PIC in the DFW area and make considerably more than the staff- you may want to talk with your Pharmacy Sup

I been working as a pharmacist for CVS pharmacy for the past 5 years. It does have its ups and downs, but overall, retail pharmacy is the same everywhere with slight differences. I am unsure how wal-mart pharmacist enjoy there job or pay compared to walgreens.
Will say though they do have better working shifts such as 8 hour days. Yea I know working open to close entitles you to more days off, but also means your spending a good day just getting your energy back. I also know as a PIC you do have more responsibilities, however you also call the shots. So you make the pharmacy they way you want it to run.
Overall is really comes down to, which company has the lowest turn over rate, because thats the company for the most part people love to work for, or takes pride in its employees.
As for pharmacy supervisors making more money then staff pharmacist, maybe if you factor in mileage, car insurance coverage, I can see a staff pharmacist making as much or slightly more then a pharmacist sup. However a pharmacist sup is the next step to becoming a district manager, regional manager, and so forth.
By the way anyone has any thoughts on other retail pharmacy jobs like wal-mart or walgreens???

CVS in general has a bad rap, especially in CA. Notice how they hire the most new grads every year, it's because they have the highest turn over. Every company has their good and bad. I've heard good things about Wal-greens, you still deal with all the crap there too but a lot of pharmacists, like the computer system. They say that it helps you not make mistakes and they have way lower turn over than CVS in my area.
