Is there any disadvantage to taking ur Step 1 examination later in the year... For instance, taking it in late June as opposed to March?

.... This is a random question, but I heard that the later the test dates the worst the questions are... It sounds crazy to me... but I guess this would be the forum to confirm it... haha...

Thanks!

I've never really seen any analysis done on this.. but I'd imagine you'd be up against more prepared students who took more time to study.. but most schools (mine) dont even finish until mid/late may so we have to take the test in June.

Personally, I'd rather a harder test and more generous curve rather than a joke test where a 70% gets you a crap score

It's a standardized test, meaning it should (in theory) accurately scale scores so that they are comparable regardless of when you take it (including both within a given year and between years). If he test itself was biased toward taking it at a certain time, what good would it serve as a metric for comparing students? So if the questions are harder, getting less of them correct should result in the same score as someone who got more correct on an "easier" form. Even if there were a way to compare how students did based on when they take it, controlling for all the confounding variables would be very, very difficult.
