I must go back to Asia soon. I applied super late. I plan on e-mailing schools to let them in on my circumstances. Something like: "I am very interested in interviewing at X SOM but will only be in the states until February xth. Interview me, dammit."

Okay, maybe not the dammit part.

Any similar experiences?

This need to expedite is well evidenced by material in my application. I.e., I don't think they will think I'm just antsy and neurotic.

I've been lucky enough to already chalk up one acceptance and two interviews, but still await info from 7 or so schools. I feel that I'm competitive as an applicant. I fear that the action could increase my odds of being overlooked and rejected.

It works. I did it. It might not get you interviews you wouldn't have gotten otherwise, but it may expedite the process. I was out of the country till November, let them all know when I was coming back, and was able to schedule 8 interviews the two weeks after I got back.

If you do want to send something, I advise sending it very very soon. I'm in the same position (I will be leaving the country at the end of February). I called schools way back and asked when/how they wanted to be notified of this, and most requested that I explain this with my ORIGINAL application back in October, and some schools said to let them know of these dates at least three months in advance.

This news might not be received well this late into the process b/c schools don't like to feel bullied. As in, telling a school "I'm leaving in 4 weeks, look at my app RIGHT NOW" is not the same as saying "I'm leaving in three months and need to interview sooner, please move my app through your system quickly"....but of course, it's worth a try, I think Just send it out asap!
