Any former PA's at NYCOM? Do you like the school? How's the interview, competiton, attitude towards PA's etc.

P.S. How do D.O. schools look at PA's in general?

DO schools tend to look on applicants with any type of clinical experience as a positive. From my experience this contrasts the allopathic schools.

there's a former PA in my class at NYCOM (2009). The dude is impressive: he still works 40-50 hrs/ week as a PA (so actually scratch the former PA part) and streams all the lectures at night. Only shows up to required attendance classes like OMM and anatomy.

He is working his tail off, but I am sure from a debt perspective doing much better than me.

WOW That's impressive!! I'm a PA and attending school at DMU. I'm definitely glad that I made the transition. Applied both MD and DO. I will say that DO schools definitely looked at my PA grades much more favorably as my undergrad grades were not stellar, around 3.0 or so. PA school, I was at the top of my class. Seemed that MD schools entirely ignored this "improvement" like they say they want to see, but every DO school I applied to I was accepted to.

No way I could work though with a wife and 3 kids and limited time after studying anyways.

Not a chance, lol... he's never streamed a single lecture. Besides, he works mostly night shifts, or 24-36's that include nights.

i am finishing my second year at lecom. i still work 32-45 hours per week for the entire time. VERY VERY hard, but i am not married or have any kids, so its do-able.

not as high of a class rank as it could be if i didnt work, but who cares

I am currently a PA who will start DO school 2007. I plan to continue to work part time (20 hrs/week). I will work mostly as a consultant since I am in admin. now. This will not exactly be easy, but at $40/hour, it beats campus work-study.

Did being a PA help you in the process of application?
