Hello Pre-Medical student(s),
My name is elephant and So.. Here i am, trying understand more of what i want to do in the future. I was wondering if there are any of you Pre-medical students who are alike me to give me hope in pursuing in pain management. Although i may not have the highest grade in my high school (3.64), i participated in sports such as soccer, cross country and volleyball to keep active in school through out my high school years (I'm a senior now and yes i am a scholar athlete all years -WOOT !). I have also been an active member of the Relay for Life committee where it has help me find the general area i wanted to pursue in. I have a feeling that i might not make into medical school whatsoever due to my grades becoming upset not trying harder than i should have ....but are there any routes in my path that i can take to get into medical school. I understand that i put this thread under anesthesiology because this is the general area i would like to pursue in because of family health issues i now have to conflict with.
Are any like me who wouldn't mind giving me an idea of what might happen and who are like me XD.

( i like how most sentence start with I)

sounds like you're involved in some neat things and are a motivated guy who's thinking about his future. good for you. You've got a few years before you can be a pain doc though... 4 years of college, 4 years of med school, 4 years of anesthesia residency (or physical medicine and rehab, or something like that), and then a pain fellowship. That's like 3/4 of the years you've been alive thus far! So just take it one step at a time. Go to the best college you can that you'll be happy at and work hard there. If you're worried about getting into med school do some research in a lab, maybe something involving pain or anesthesia since you think you might be interested in that. Do well on the MCAT and try to get into the best med school you can that you'll be happy at. then be openminded in med school and see what interests you, you might be surprised! good luck!

Well the thing is i was wondering, when applying for medical school- do they ask you what you have done like what has really served as a backround or a foundation to your choice of a medical school.
what is it like? any experiences pre medical student would like (love) to share?
Do undergrad years like count? -because i plan on going to a community college rather a University of California.
thanks for the reply FREDIE (lots of help) XD

um, yeah, undergrad years count for getting into med school. I'm gonna have to say they're more or less the most important thing... I don't think you'd get into a us medical school having gone to just a community college - you'd have to graduate with a bachellor of science or bachellor of art with the necessary science pre-requisites completed and the MCAT under your belt. If you do well, you could probably go to a community college and then transfer to a 4 year school if you think that's best for you, but I'd recommend doing some research as an undergrad to buffer your profile.
what doesn't really count so much for getting into a med school is what specialty you plan on going into. most people don't know at that point and the ones who think they do are usually wrong.
you probably won't find many premeds on this board to offer their opinions. I'd recommend one of the premed boards for that. this board is geared more towards people who have questions about getting into anesthesia and practicing anesthesia, moreso than getting into med school. So not too many premeds hang around here, because like I said, not too many people know what specialty they want to go into at that stage of the game.

I have done some research and asked quite a few reps., i have met a student that came from a community college that transfered to UC davis where he obtained his degree, following that he got into medical school with ggood MCAT scores and GPA. that is the path that i look forward to follow because coming from a base UC college, it will be a difficult learning environment for me because of the big lecture halls.
well thank you for helping me understand more about my path and congrats onto getting into medical school.
P.S. what medical school do you go to?
