I am sure with your stats that you will be just fine non-trad....

Age is not as frowned upon as it once was... I am sure you will do well

Best wishes for your endeavour

Thanks for the encouragement. The paperwork's done and now it's white-knuckle season, checking the e-mail a hundred times a day. It's enough to make an applicant a little cranky!

Sure, hope you get in, feel free to email me or PM me if you have any specific questions

osucom actually calls for interview invites, so add voicemail to that checking 100 times a day list. 🙂 i'm sure you will be hearing from them soon.

I'm inbound from Colorado for a November 17th interview. Are any of you scheduled for the same day?

Good luck to those of you interviewing this week.
I may be up at the school working on scheduling elective rotations. If I am, I'll try to make it by to say hello. 🙂

Thanks a bunch DrMom! I am truly looking forward to the interview and visit to the campus. I am hearing nothing but good things about OSUCOM and hope to be joining your ranks in August (as do we all). 🙂 I would love to talk to another parent who has survived med school, so stop by if you get a chance.

See you there Fraggle!

Does anyone know of a good DO in the OKC area to get a LOR from? Should I just find one to shadow and then ask for a letter?

All of the hospitals in OKC are full of DO's. You'll find them anywhere.

It was nice meeting you guys who were interviewing today. Like I said, you're always welcome to get ahold of me (in a thread like this or by private message) if you have any questions. (that goes for everyone else, too)

Good luck to you all! :luck:

I'm interviewing on Nov. 30th. Is anyone else interviewing on that date?

It was nice meeting you too DrMom. Has anyone told you that you look nothing like your picture? 🙂

The interviewers, staff, and students were all very forthcoming with information and thoroughly answered our barrage of questions today. It was a very good day!

Now we hurry up and wait as we watch for that FedEx truck!

And hopefully it will come for you....

Why have I gotten totally snubbed by OSU? 🙁

I'm going to call them when I get back from flying, just to make sure there's not something wrong with my application. It's weird, they were one of my top choices, I wonder if I didn't convey that very well?

It still is very early for OSU, Moose. The just started interviews.

Ah. There were so many pages in this thread, I thought I was a goner 😳

DrMom said:
You can still call the admission ofc, though, to tell them that you're really interested in OSU. 👍

I think I made that clear enough in my secondary, but I might check to be sure everything is good. 😀

Where did you get this info from? There's a now-naturalized but at time of admission/matriculation foreign student in my class.

I got it from here. I hope the link works:
http://www.healthsciences.okstate.edu/student/admissions/index.html#eligibility

If it wasn't for this I would have applied here as well.

It says:
Eligibility
Preference is given to applicants from Oklahoma. Non-U.S. citizens who do not have a permanent resident visa (“green card”) at the time of application cannot be considered for admission. The admissions committee recommends applicants for admission. Final selection of candidates to be offered admission is made by the Dean. All applicants must meet the minimum requirements to be considered for admission.

Well, if you have a permanent resident visa, you're fine. They don't want to have someone matriculate who isn't able to legally stay in the country. Seems reasonable to me.

That is absolutely different from not accepting foreign students. The policy doesn't even imply that they don't accept them, just that they must legally be in the country long enough to complete training.

dr.z said:

It's a state school; hence, you must have a permanent resident card. Only a handful of medical schools in the nation admits foreign students Don't forget that some US applicants with competitive stats still have to go to the Caribbean.

90% of students are Oklahoma residents. They take 8-12 people from out of state, but most are from bordering states (i.e. Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri).

I received the thin envelope today instead of the FEDEX package I so desperately wanted. My wife and I are disheartened, but are still hopeful that I'll be pulled from the waitlist.

Congratulations to exlawgrrl and fraggle for your acceptances! I hope to be joining you after I finish eating this piece of humble pie.

For those of you still waiting to hear, or have interviews coming up. Best of luck to you. The interview was a good experience, the program appears to be top-notch, and the faculty and staff are genuinely friendly and helpful.

🙁 don't eat the humble pie, medicalbound. supposedly 50% of their students come from the waitlist, so all hope is not lost. i'm wondering if it's a resident/non-resident thing because i see you're in colorado. i'm not a resident, but i have mucho ties to oklahoma because i grew up there, and my family is still there. osucom has all those instate quotas and whatnot. anyway, good luck. :luck:

Thank you for your words of encouragement exlawgrrl. I would be lying if I said that it didn’t take the wind out of my sails, at least for a little bit. We (like many before us) have been neurotically waiting and watching for that FedEx truck carrying the acceptance letter. My wife even overheard my four year old daughter standing in the front window say “Please come for daddy today.” I think that’s a sign that we need to lighten up a little bit so this application process doesn’t traumatize our children like it does us. 😉 We are still hopeful and unless I get a letter of rejection, I know I am still a viable candidate for a 2006 matriculation. Thanks again and please accept heartfelt congratulations!

hang in there, medicalbound! I know the waitlist isn't what you wanted (who does?), but it isn't a bad place to be...especially this early in their interviewing process.

I received the dreaded "waitlist" letter on 11/25. I'm kinda bummed because OSU is the only school I applied to and I interviewed on the second day. I was really suprised to get waitlisted because my numbers are good, I'm in state, and my interview went really well - even to the point that one of my interviewers actually told me that he was definitely recommending me for admission. So, can someone explain how our waitlisted files are handled from this point forward? Do they fill up the class first, then start looking at our files if someone whom was accepted withdraws from the school (Meaning we shouldn't even expect to hear anything until atleast March)? Or, do our files get thrown in the pile everytime a new group of interviewees comes through (So that we may hear something as soon as next month)? I've heard both scenarios recently. Thank you.

They pull people off of the waitlist monthly when they review that month's interviewees. They do not fill up the class first.

As has been mentioned many times before, about 1/2 of every entering class spent some time on the waitlist. It really isn't a bad place to be, although nobody wants to be in waitlist limbo. Hang in there & don't get discouraged at this point. :luck:

I feel your pain futured.o. I know that DrMom answered your question, but here is some supporting material. After I received the letter stating that I was waitlisted, I asked the same question to the admissions office and here is an excerpt of their answer:

"We will be interviewing applicants for the 2006 entering class from now through April. Every time a new group of applicants is interviewed, we will review wait listed applicants in that same pool for admission. This will happen once or twice per month, depending on the number of interview dates scheduled for that month. Every time the committee reviews the entire interviewed applicant pool (current interviewees and wait listed applicants), offers of admission will be made. The fact that you interviewed and were wait listed early in the admissions process means your application will be seen by the committee numerous times in review."

We may be in limbo, but at least we are in the running as many of the current OSUCOM students were. Best of luck to you, and I hope to be there with you in 2006!

What's the news from the OSUCOM front?

Generally how long after an interview does it take to receive and acceptance? How long for a waitlist?

They say within 2 weeks. The last round took 8-9 days. That is for any and all statuses (accepted, waitlisted, or the "bad one"). If you get waitlisted (like me), you can be pulled from the waitlist at anytime...

Now would be good. 🙂
