Wondering the same thing as well. My w2 won't go out until late january.

Mid January is fine. The important thing is just to get the application to the school: updating your FAFSA is very easy. If you are having a hard time making an estimate one way you can do that is to look at your last paystub. Many employers will give a running year-to-date tally on your earnings and the taxes that have been deducted. An exact figure isn't initially needed, but when your taxes are completed go ahead and update your application.

cant u just use last year's info for now, and then update it? thats what i am doing for now

Hey, current D-students: Is there any harm in waiting to submit FAFSA in February? Since my school's deadline isn't till March 1st, I thought I'd just wait until I get my W-2. Or should I estimate and update later?!?

The sooner you get it in the better. It gives you a better shot at getting grants if you get your FAFSA in sooner. Each year I turned my FAFSA in literally on Jan 1st, I received 3K grants.

what if I am not yet decided on which school to attend... canI fill out the fafsa now? what school code I should put in?
