Wondering about realistic daily schedule of an employed NIR attending

In our shop they have similar normal daytime hours, maybe a little more chill because they have downtime on procedure days. Usually 1 day of clinic per week. Depending on the amount of NIRs in the call pool they will be on call q2-q5 or so. Usually on the lower side. Some do diagnostics as well, some are purely interventional but split between LP/spine and angio days. Depending on how busy their practice is and how much elective stuff they do (aneurysms, MMA embolization, kyphoplasties, stenting etc) things can vary.

Relative who is in NIR works academic and covers 2 hospitals and is on call q3 at one and q4 at the second. Ends up being almost call 2 out of 3 days. Days he isn’t on call typically 10 hr days, with call it can be much longer and he crosses 80hrs a week almost all the time

NIR guys are pretty rare and as you might have gathered by the snarky comments, they work crazy hours so they probably don't spend much of their free time on SDN. You might be better off just calling a practice/hospital and trying to track down a NIR to speak with. They probably won't talk openly about salary, but you should be able to get some idea of their lifestyle. If you're a med student, go find the NIR at your institution and buy them a cup of coffee. If you want to know salary, you can sometimes look it up on public databases if your state requires it and it's a public institution.
