Hi.

Any one applying to the UAB for fall 2018? Do you have any idea how competitive the UAB is?

I am considering applying to the UAB because I currently live in Birmingham with my husband who is a resident in the UAB hospital. I am a permanent resident and I have a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from a university outside of the USA.. I am considering OT because I enjoyed working closely with occupational therapists in my one year internship and I have been working with an occupational therapist for my three years old daughter..I think its the perfect job for me in the future.. Obviously,I cant apply for any school outside Birmingham city.. I have some prerequisite courses left that I am planning to take them in the spring.. Do you advice me to apply considering my following status:
Bachelor's degree in physical therapy
GPA:3.5
last 60 hours GPA:3.9
3 prerequisite planning to take in the spring and finish them before June 1
one complete year internship: inpatient, outpatient, working in different PT clinics, doing different seminars and presentations for the PT staff
GRE: Quantitative:149, Verbal:144,writing:2.5( I know it is low but I am not a person who can work under time pressure) Just give me the time and I will think carefully and do very well
I would really appreciate your feedback..
Thanks

I don't think you should apply this cycle. UAB's deadline is December 1st and even if you submitted your application today, there's a low likelihood of it being verified by OTCAS by that deadline. I would really suggest you study more for the GRE and retake it. I think most competitive applicants have a 4.0 on the writing, but even a 3.5 would help you a lot! Your quantitative/verbal scores may be okay, but it wouldn't hurt to get them a little higher. Your GPA looks really good though and your experience in PT could give you an edge up!

I heard back today about an interview! Anyone else?
Congrats! I emailed them a few days ago asking when everyone would be hearing back and they just said they are still in the process of reviewing all the applicants and to be patient. Mind sharing your stats?

Thank you! Sorry for the delayed reply.
I hope you hear back from them soon! Sure. My stats are:
Degree: B.S. in Leisure Studies
GPA: 3.7
GRE scores: 150V/149Q/4.0 Writing
Observation hours: ~150 in outpatient peds/SNF/hospital/developmental and intellectual disability camps
I also worked for a year and a half as a CTRS/Activities Director.

I ended up getting an invite but the only times were left were on the 26th and that’s when my brother is getting married so I’m going to end up declining the interview.

Do you receive an email from them to the email you gave OTCAS?

Does anyone else mind posting their stats?

That's the day mine is. Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. 🙁 And you asked about other dates or a possible Skype interview??

Well it's the 4th today so who knows! You still might get one.
This is my 3rd time applying for OT schools so my best advice is if you'e serious and really want it, ask programs what you could do improve scores or get more observation/work experience. Don't give up!

Thank you so much! I will probably apply again if I do not get in this year. Congratulations on your hardwork and patience to become an OT. That is so awesome. Do you mind sharing where your stats are now to of gotten an interview?

Definitely. It's definitely been a journey for me but know it'll pay off! Sure!

I went back to school in the fall to take physics for the first time (it was awful but I made an A!), and re-took anatomy as a refresher and to make a better grade. Re-taking lower grade pre-requisites not only helps improve your GPA but also show schools that your serious. This was advice given from a previous year I applied. Be careful though because some schools will only accept no more than 2 repeat courses. Definitely make sure those hard sciences (anatomy, kinesiology, etc.) you have A's or B's in. If you do have to wait another year to apply, take that time to get as many observation hours in various settings also. That definitely helps!
Good luck! Stay positive and keep pushing forward!

I heard back yesterday... I don't think there is a specific date for when they are done sending out interview invitations so if you haven't received an email yet don't give up hope!

I got an interview!!!! I got my email yesterday, I am so thankful! Is everyone's on the 26th?

Yeah they only had availability on the 26th and they don’t do Skype interviews 🙁 so I had to decline the interview. I’m bummed but not completely since I’ve heard back from some other schools already and know I will be going somewhere! Best of luck to you and everyone on their interviews!

Well I'm glad you heard back from other schools! Thanks and best wishes to you too!

That’s awesome! Has anyone heard if it’s group or individual?
I have a friend in the program and she said that the past 2 years have been individual. I'm not sure if they'll keep it like that or switch it up this year!

Hey! I also have an interview for the 26th! Anyone have any advice for how to prepare?

I also have my interview the 26th! Had to move my Belmont interview to March 23rd bc of conflicting dates but oh well

Does anyone know how long it will take to hear back from them?

I feel pretty good about mine! Everyone was so sweet! What about you? I hope we don't have to wait too long to hear back...
I thought the interviewers were so kind and engaging. Praying we all get in! Will any of yall let me know if you get a call from them? I'm sure we'll hear of something tomorrow or Friday. I will be sure to do the same.

I was hoping to get a call today but nothing! Maybe tomorrow?? I hope we all hear good news too! I'll keep y'all updated.

I didn’t get a call. Of those that did get in, did y’all have interviews at USA too?
Don't lose hope! I'm sure they had to contact a bunch of people and might not have gotten to everyone. I had an interview at South. Waiting to hear back from them also... I'm gonna call Monday and see what's up.

I had one at south alabama also. I emailed them earlier this week and they said "We are hoping to let everyone know something by the end of next week. We
have the last rescheduled interviews this week and the committee will meet after those interviews."

I haven't gotten a call yet either, but last year it took them at least two days to call everyone so don't worry! Especially because apparently they weren't planning on calling everyone until Monday anyway!
Hopefully they haven't called everyone yet. i am ready to see what the email says and I am ready to hear back from USA.

I hear from UAB on Friday also! So exciting! Valley told me they are sending out the official invitation emails on Monday! I also interviewed at USA and am waiting to hear back from them. I know they take 30 people per cohort (where UAB took 60), so a much smaller class size! Fingers crossed! Does anyone know any pros/cons between the two schools?
